I received this email after applying for a personal/executive assistant position on Craigslist. Obvious SCAM!!!!

Hello,

Thanks for your response. My name is Christopher Murphy. I live in US but presently in London on a business trip and I need a part time personal assistant urgently to run my errands until I return back to the US by fourth week in December. I own an electronics and clothing store in London, United Kingdom. Here below is the job description.

1. You will run errands for three times a week and four hours each day but depending on how fast you can carry out the assignment given to you. The working days and hours are flexible.
2. You will do my business shopping.
3. You will receive my packages which will be shipped to the nearest UPS office to you. You will go to the UPS office and pick up the packages. The content of the packages are electronics, clothes, my business and personal letters. You will open the packages and confirm the contents for record purpose.
4. You will ship out some of the packages where I want them to be shipped to. (You don't have to pay for the shipment. All expenses and taxes will be covered by me)
5. You will receive payments from my clients on my behalf which will be written payable to your name so you can cash them at your bank. The payments will be in either check or money order. The payments will be for the services you will be rendering and to do my business shopping.

Job Requirement
1. You must have good communicatin skill.
2. You must be efficient, reliable, responsible and trustworthy.
3. You must be able to perform your tasks effectively


Payment and Work Duration
The Job will last for three months. I want to open another electronics and clothing store in the US when I return and If there is need to extend your services, an ammedment would be made to your wages and you will be notified accordingly. I will meet you in person by December when I return back to the US. I am willing to pay $25 per hr and $300 per week. Your weekly payment will be deducted from the payments sent to you by my clients.

I need the service of a personal assistant because I am always out of town for business trips. The lists and pictures of what to shop will be sent to you via email when am ready. No heavy packages are involved! The shopping will be done at any nearest stores to you. You will be shopping for Electronics and clothes. My personal UPS account number will be provided for shipping. Might or might not be the same person(or group of people) preying upon those of us desperately looking for a job. Phone number on his job posting is 447405903514. Going by name of Brian. A few years ago received similar reply to my resume from a Bryan Cole claiming to be in the UK. Received three checks in the mail in the amount of $1,350 each. Of course I never cashed them - then he started sending me nasty threatening e-mails wanting to know where is money was. I told him his checks were fake and I had turned to the FBI.

I experienced an almost identical scam here in San Diego. The job was also posted on Craigslist. He claims to represent a real organization, ActionAid (actionaid.org), but his return address is @actionaidreps.org.

I responded to the ad and was hired very quickly. After a few more emails, I received a Cashier's Check for $3,500. I did not correspond with him any further. I did show the check to someone at my bank and she laughed, saying it was the worst fake she'd ever seen.

My only regret is that he has my name, address, phone, and email from my resume. I doubt I'll hear from him again but his having my info makes me want to take a hot shower.

I do have a pile up of work and a number of unattended chores which you can immediately assist me with, I hope we can meet up with the workload eventually.

Permit me to use this week to test your efficiency and diligence towards all this, also to work out your time schedule and fit it to mine. I really need to find the perfect person for this job, I'm confident you can take up the challenge and on the long run we should have a relatively sound working relationship between us. I'm hardly online most of the time when I'm not out or in a meeting so we should be able to have a chat sooner than you think. Do try to keep a date.. I will be glad if you are willing to work with me as i do need someone that's committed and reliable.

I received on of these Checks Drawn on Quest University British Columbia checking account which Quest University said that RCMP is looking into this, but cannot prosecute these "Nigerian Scammers" but will arrest anyone attempting to cash one of these 1990.00 checks. Since I am a "New" Immigrant to Canada I am not allowed to report any crimes until Immigration Canada Lands me which Have been waiting over 5 years. This has allowed many criminals to keep getting away with these crimes. I Love being a Canadian.

Same spiel but the name was Frederick (Fred) Lamp...the tip off was how could he know that after taxes it would be $400?? Everyone has different tax brackets.

However I didn't realize this until I had gotten my hopes up. Thank goodness for my dear hubby!

My gut told me this just was too good to be true...I just didn't want to believe it. I hate the evil things people do.
