Scams offering fake Au Pair positions
#166473 by SaraK Wed May 22, 2013 9:20 am
My friend was contacted via aupairworld and Facebook by a Host Family called Mary Kellyss - [email protected] - she was offered an au pair job in the USA and the family sent emails and photos of the family. She was then contacted by Ann Charles and Mike Davis from an au pair agency who sent her application forms and documents to complete - they used this email address for their agency - [email protected]. They wanted her to wire or transfer money to them using Western Union or Money Gram. She contacted a real au pair agency to check this and they told her that no au pair agency ever asks for money to be wired or transferred and this was a scam - I wanted to report it on this site so no one falls for this scam.

Just don't resply, sure they will give up soon - my friend has reported them to Facebook and aupairworld - I wonder if there is anywhere else she should report them? Does anyone know? :?:

My friend thinks she is being contacted by another scammer - maybe it's the same scam?? Anyone heard of this one?

Agency person is called Glenn Defrae - [email protected] and they want her to send money to Paul E Sims in Colorado. Told her she is matched with family called Chavez!!!

As they are asking her to send money I told her it's a scam.

I've been contacted by Valerie Chavez and the agency person's name and e-mail are the same (Glenn Defrae - [email protected]). I haven't answered because the amount of money offered by her seemed suspicious to me.

This is definitely another scam.

USA.com email addresses are free email addresses, just like gmail or yahoo addresses. They are not connected to any legitimate business or agency.

If a host family asks you to send money by Western Union or moneygram to anyone, it is a scam.

If you are looking for an au pair position in the US, it is very important that you familiarize yourself with the US government's rules regarding au pairs. In the US, you can ONLY become an au pair if you are sponsored by one of the agencies on this official list: http://j1visa.state.gov/participants/how-to-apply/sponsor-search/?program=Au%20Pair&state=any If a "family" claims they can hire you directly, or if they refer you to an agency that is not on this list (or if they refer you to an attorney) then they are fake. If they give you the name of an agency on this list, you need to follow the link FROM THE OFFICIAL LIST to the agency's website, then contact the agency THROUGH THEIR WEBSITE OR AT THE PHONE NUMBER ON THE OFFICIAL LIST, and verify that they are indeed arranging a position for you. Otherwise, a scammer could just be using a real agency's name.

Thankyou for posting the scammer SaraK.
The above script has been used in 2 previous scams. One from a scammer calling itself sarah martin from September Twenty 12 in a Au Pair type scam. I won't say too much publically but after a while they become easy to spot.

It's a common question SaraK and you could ask why gunmakers don't stop people killing victims, or knife makers stop people stabbing each other.

Scammers use and abuse many legitimate services, from ad sites, employment sites, banks and any other service they can abuse to make a profit. Some even found a way to abuse the telephone service for deaf people.

The service that Western Union and other payment service providers is both legitimate and useful, and they do take steps to inhibit scammers from taking advantage of their service, and the best way to defeat the scammer is for people to know how to use them properly. Western Union themselves make it clear that their service shouldn't be used to pay money to strangers, and they can't stop people who won't listen, which often happens.

Western Union have done well to cope with negative publicity, but if people followed their guidelines it wouldn't be a problem.

Welcome Kellyss!

Smart move--thinking you can actually get away with pretending you are real in a group of experienced fighters! The ridiculous use of icons really adds to your plausibility (not.)

Thank you for providing us with another one of your scamming email addresses!

Yes, SaraK scammers are abusive low life criminals. They will lie and cheat to steal money instead of finding a legitimate job.

Do not worry about his threats. It is only a bluff. He is located in Nigeria. Your post has damaged his scam business. He has lost victims and trying to recover his losses.

Thank you so much for helping others.

Bryon
