It is worth mentioning that with many of these scams, the scammer has used the same wording time and time again, in many cases it is possible to find the exact wording posted elsewhere in regards to scams.

From this scam I picked out this line "water, electricity, Internet, cable, parking, air conditioning, dishwasher, garbage" I kind of recall seeing it before and I did an exact search on it, by doing that I found over 100 exact matches and they are all scams.

As a general rule, the .com and .de emails are not the same so if there is no other evidence to suggest you were hacked, there is no reason to be too concerned.

We post the names scammers are using, though, because it is important to alert potential victims. However, we try to make it very clear that the name the scammer is using is almost NEVER the scammer's real name.

I just bumped on a similar scam for an apartment in Faro. The advertisement goes as:

title: "Apartamento T2 Faro"

main text: "T2 ,sala comum (35m2), com vista desafogada virada a Poente, suite (15m2) c/armário e wc completa, quarto (12m2) também c/armários, wc completa e cozinha (12m2) totalmente equipada e c/zona de estendal. Chão em tábua corrida, janelas com caixilharias de aluminio termolacado e vidros duplos. Cozinha e wcs em mármore. Aquecimento central. 1 lugar de garagem e uma arrecadação (17m2). Video-Porteiro, Porteiro e segurança 24H."

Does not provide contact information on the website. Upon contact using the Olx website (typical craigslist type of portuguese website), responds under the name of Thomas Dieter, email [email protected], stating the following:

Asks for a fair amount, for the area, but for a very luxurious type of flat and tops that with bills included (!):

After reply to this email, a contact for the supposed agency (it's an hoax email, where part of the heading of the real agency is used but other text is introduced). Many mistakes are committed, as the date of construction of the building is too recent to match previous claims that he lived in Faro for 5 years, there's not door number in the address, no ID for the owner (just the name), address in London doesn't match postal code, etc, etc. One minute later from receiving the agency email, I receive his email stating this:

Basically, a money transfer is asked even before there is a chance to see the flat (which, obviously doesn't even exist), and a promisse is made that, after seeing the flat, is you don't like it, they will return the money in full.... duhh!

It seems a very elaborated story, building upon the ones already reported in this thread. These guys are getting more polished, we need to be careful.

After this response to my request for information on the property in question, i told "her" what i wanted and who I was and asked how She would then proceed to lease the property.
Unlike the first email, the second does not show any sympathy and actually shows a certain coldness, and a willingness to dispatch business and receive money and it was here that I began to suspect ...

"I want to inform you that REMAX will hold the money until you will confirm to them that you like the apt and keep the keys. If you don't like it, you only have to return the keys to them after they will refund the money to you and they will deliver the keys back to me on my expense.
I will need to inform you the steps about how this service works and how we can make it happen. You will only have to deposit to REMAX Service the first month of rent + security deposit (Finca) - 600 EUR - so they can proceed with the shipping, and you can receive the keys and the contract.
Like I said, I will pay for a 2 days delivery so you will receive the Keys and the contract signed by me right away. I will explain to you step by step how this will work:
1 - To start this transaction i will need to know your full shipping information, full name, full shipping address and phone number to proceed with this deal .
2 - I go to the REMAX Office and leave the Keys and the contract in your name as the intended receiver.

And I suspected because, first in Portugal REMAX does not work that way, Portuguese people do not accept this type of business and i do not think it´s properly deposit money into some account from someone who i doesn´t know and even not seen the house ... this is not normal neither here nor in the world! People who accept these conditions have to be careful not to be deceived by such unscrupulous people.
Thanks for posting this kind of news on the internet for people like me do not fall into these traps, and also i want to appeal to everyone to denounce here and in all possible sites for these situations are liable as a crime!

I got a very similar email from a listing on the same site ( http://www.immobilienscout24.de/ )

Hi again,
I will explain the best way I can. I have a contract with a real estate agency and I have already paid for the service (no charge for you).
The real estate agency will send an agent to show you the apartment in my name at a scheduled date (at your convenience ). You will meet with the agent at the scheduled date and hour in front of the building.
The agency requests a 1000 EUR deposit in advance (2 months rent) to be sure that the client has good intentions. It kind of makes sense since they handle abroad rentals and they send the agents all over Europe. Only after you transfer the deposit to them, the agent is sent to meet you for the viewing. The agent is German and it will be at your service the same day you have completed the deposit
I have already signed a contract with them, so if you want to rent this apartment we will have to follow the rules of the agency.
I want to make 2 things very clear:

1) the deposit that you have to pay in advance is 100% refundable if you don't like the apartment(if you want to keep the apartment the agency will give me the money as payment for the deposit months)

2) the payment is a simple formality and by paying you are not obliged to rent the apartment. You are just respecting the policy of an abroad rentals agency .

Now, in order to start the transaction, I will need the following information from you :

a) your full name ( first name, last name )
b) your current address(street name, street number, postal code, city)
c) your telephone number
d) rental period desired
e) email address

After I will receive this information from you I will forward them to the agency.
They will send you an invoice with the payment and viewing instructions, and all you have to do is follow these instructions to have the priority in taking the apartment.

PS: After this first payment through the real estate agency, the rent will be paid monthly to my bank account on a scheduled date (at your convenience).

The ad got removed today but there is a fake website and company VIP Con Rental Company (http://vipcon-rental-company.com, at least they've got a sense of humor!).

As they had the IVD logo on the site I called up to check and nope, they're not registered to do business in Germany so I sent the IVD Nord lady I spoke to the link to the site for them to check it out and get them for fraud.. The phone number of the company is also fake of course.

The site was created 3 days ago and registered by a certain [email protected]
And the scam is being conducted by [email protected]

Watch out for them ;)
