We have been tracking vehicles on autotrader.ca
We are contacting the ads that are a little two good to be true. All under $5000 with fairly low kms. They usually also post these ads in several different Canadian cities.
The story varies between scammers, selling because of divorce, a child in an oversees hospital, moved out of the country for work and so on.
But the main part of the story is always the same, you can't see the vehicle, they want to ship it to you, of course free from cost to you. They either won free shipping or it's included in the already low price for the car. They will either want to use ebay, amazon, google checkout or another online source. It is important to remember that none of these companies do transactions outside of their own websites and none use Western Union. And please release that if you send your money via Western Union, the minute it leaves your hands, it is gone for good. Although we can trace where the money was picked up, there is no chance in getting it back.
We have alerted autotrader of this problem. We have also placed all the names below on the Western Union watch list. We are also working with all the associated police departments regarding this scam.
If you come across one of these fake ads, report them to autotrader then send the information you have received to your local police department.
