Robert Lucas or aka Richard Charbonneau is still alive and well. I received the following email from
[email protected]:

I'm interested and consider it sold, I'm buying it for my father and
payment would be through PayPal, my agent will come for pick up,
actually I'm working in a ship and most time I am off shore. Expecting
your prompt reply, with the name and email address on the your PayPal
account so that I can make the payment and please provide me with
recent pictures including this item so I can see the condition before
we proceed since I would not be seen it in person so I can make a
payment right away, and pick up would at your residence. And lastly,
I'm offering additional $100 to your final price for you to keep it
off from other offer. If you don't have paypal account yet, it is
very easy to set up, go to http://www.paypal.com and get it set up..
looking forward to your response.

Regards.

I just want to know more about it to make sure its in good condition so can you assure me i will not be disappointed??? I have a little problem with the pickup agent and i was told to make a payment of $1,500 for the pickup agent arraignment which i will be including with the payment now. I will add the $1,500 along with the payment to you right now by paypal and once you received the payment confirmation you can help me send the $1,500 to the Pickup agent through Western Union as i have tired so many times to make the payment directly to them by self since they didn't accept paypal only Western Union and can't send money offshore since i forget to bring along with my credit card on here. I will make the payment right now to you and once received payment confirmation help me send the money to them to schedule the pickup arrangement.

Thank You,
Richard

Hello XX,

I have just made the payment and i expect paypal to have emailed by now, check your paypal email address or junk mail if you have been messaged yet, i sent $7,200 in all, paypal said they would be holding the funds because of the excess payment of $1,600 added meant for pick up of the item and due to the fact that i emailed them about the excess payment i made, until they get the western union information from you,the item is being delivered to company, i will need you to send the $1,500 to my pick up agent Headquarters via western union money transfer(this can be done from the post office, as they usually have a western union agent there) , i added extra $100 to cover the western union charges which shouldn't be more that $80-90 but just to be sure i added $100, Here is my pick up agent Headquarter info needed to get the money sent through western union money transfer:

Name: Ben Wallace
Address: 9003 Trumpet Cir
City:Converse
STATE : TX
POSTAL CODE 78109
Country: United State.

kindly email the necessary details to paypal customer care:The mtcn 10 digit number on the western union money transfer receipt, which you will be given at the western union after you might sent the money as well as the sender's name and address used to send the money through western union to my agent, email all the western union details to paypal direct that is fine with me in order for the money i sent to be credit into your account and after verify everything they will credited the whole money into your account.

PS: i need your residence home address cos i need to send it to my agent so that they can figure it out,It's nice doing business with you.
I will be looking forward to hear from you.

Regards
Richard

Identical huh? ... the only way I found out was trying to link to website directed to call to get $$.. once you pay them... I googled that website and ended up here.. PLEASE BEWARE.

within a few hrs and further searches, I found the following.. from a couple of years back... look at the similarity.. same scam, but different object.. boat. Look at his after thoughts.. below. beware.

There were several tell tale signs that this was a scam;
The language used
He wanted another party to pick the car up
His insistence and even instructions on how to receive payment in the way it suited him.
The lack of negotiation and willingness to pay the full price

Had communication continued, I would presume that I would have received an email that appeared to be from paypal saying that the money had been paid with an additional amount paid that was to be forwarded to his agent, most likely by Western Union.

The scammer may have even added an additional amount to compensate me for my trouble.

Of course, the payment would not have actually reached my paypal account and any money sent to his agent would be lost and gone forever.

I may have even received additional emails pretending to be the auction site, Pay Pal or even the police suggesting that I should forward payment immediately to the agent.

By checking the header of the email I received it appears the email was sent from 85.214.149.35 Germany

I got this today:

Thanks for the quick response to my mail... Can you assure me that i will not be disappointed if i buy this Vehicle. I'm ready to pay your asking price but not cash in person because I'm currently in a conference and calls are restricted at the moment and my only quickest payment option is PayPal, its safe fast and secure and i will be responsible for the PayPal transaction charges so you can get your expected amount. If you don't have an account with PayPal, its pretty easy to open one,Just log onto www.paypal.com and sign up.I hope we can make the purchase as fast as possible? As I am buying the vehicle for someone and I'm very sure he will love this vehicle, his a mechanic and a handy man, so if there is anything that need to be fixed in it just let me know he will handle it. I have a mover that will come for the pick up once payment clears in your account and he will handle the title for me.I look forward to hear from you with the information below.

Your PayPal e-Mail Address :
Full name:
Firm Price:
Zip code for pickup:

Received this morning from Richard Charbonneau <[email protected]>, replying to a craigslist car ad:
---
Hi,

I'm very interested in your Ads and I would like to know if it's still available for sale? waiting for your prompt response..

Richard
---
Reply goes to Richard Charbonneau <[email protected]>. Thanks to the posters at scamwarners.com I didn't even reply to the e-mail (I was worried that it came from a spammer, rather than a scammer!).

"Robert Lucas"& "Matthew Scott" apparently are now also known as "Richard Charbonneau". I posted a motorcycle for sale on Craigslist and received an immediate response which sounded too good to be true. I found the response email from "Richard" to be EXACTLY the same as the email received by "hurtsme" in this post. The new email address being used is "[email protected]" which iptracker says does not exist. I am so glad I decided to do a little checking and in the process found this site.
