I was over at 419eater and posted this. The mods over there asked me to post here as well to let everyone know.

Well, this is my first post here, but I found this site about six months ago while researching a suspicious email I received from what turned out to be a scammer. Like many, I spent hours enjoying the articles and content here.

Fast forward to last week. I use www.craigslist.org to generate business for my accounting business. I posted my ad under services like I always have, except this time I received the following:

Well, I must say I fell for it. I really thought it was a legitimate so I replied and he sent me his yahoo messenger Id. He was contacting me at 3am my time. I went out and bought the checks and contacted UPS about airway bills and I even sent him a sample check. The sample check was written out to him from him because I did not want to risk anything. Even though I fell for it initially I had my doubts. I felt really happy that my business was picking up and that he would be paying me 500 a month for such a simple task of writing checks.

We exchanged information and a few messages on Friday when my checks that I ordered were delayed. He was very patient with me. Well this morning I'm ready to get to work for him when I asked him to repeat the story he told me about how he was a busy civil engineer and a business man. Well, because he was using yahoo messenger instead of email and the history had been erased, he could not recount exactly what he told me so I began to question him about his work and the process and asked him to give me his web site address. Well, the usual quick response was delayed so I came here and found the same email I received using the versacheck software and I knew I was being duped. I did not send any personal info to him other than my email and phone number he got from my online ad. I have not heard from him since. Thanks to all here at 419 for saving me.

I checked the header and the email originated from nigeria
Well, well I just realized that another one of my so called "new customers" is also a scammer and may be the same guy!!

Check it out:

Nice update to this story:
http://www.delawareonline.com/article/20090727/NEWS05/907270324

TWO ARRESTED IN SCAM: Two Dover residents were arrested this weekend for allegedly scamming people and businesses in various states for more than $13,000, police said. Tena Abernathy, 51, and John Moore, 57, both of Mast Circle, face felony charges after Wisconsin police contacted Delaware authorities to report a scam the two had going on Craigslist, said state police spokesman Jeff Whitmarsh. The pair allegedly sent a check for more than the price of a car listed on the Web site, telling the seller the check included a portion he should send back via Money Gram, Whitmarsh said. After sending the money, the seller found out the check was counterfeit and no one picked up the car. Police said victims were found in Wisconsin, Florida, Tennessee and Kentucky. Both suspects are charged with eight counts of felony theft by false pretenses, two counts of misdemeanor theft by false pretenses and two counts of unlawful use of a credit card, and were released after posting $20,000 bond. Police are asking anyone with information to call Troop 3 Financial Crimes Unit at 697-4454.

On 08/27/09, I replied to a job offer on Craigslist.com for a Customer Support Representative position being advertised. I sent my contact information, a cover letter describing my qualifications, and a resume to the job posting email that was given. On 08/29/09, I was contacted via email by a person under the name of Hilary Moore (hilarymoorerecruitmentjobs@gmail.com) who told me more information would be needed for me to be considered for the position. The person requested my home address, my telephone numbers, etc. In the email, the person also described that funds and a laptop would be sent to me to set up a mini home office by a shipping agent. The person indicated that I would have to send funds back to the shipping agent to ensure that I was good at disbursing funds. They even requested that I provide them with the name of my bank. This is the link that leads directly to the job posting ad on Craigslist: http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/csr/1345333972.html. Thanks to this posting, I found out it was a scam. :?
