Thank you so much for the info on this Col. Ricky Gibbs....he contacted me on a site called speeddating and then we started instant messaging through yahoo. I have only chatted with him some this morning and something told me to search his name on google and this site is what I found. Since finding this forum, I have not and will not be talking to this person again.
Again, thank you!

I too have been talking to this Col. Ricky Gibbs, since Saturday, Feb 19, 2011. He has not asked for any money, "yet", but after seeing this site, I would not be surprised. Thank you for all the warnings. Sad is using this poor military man's pics to scam people. If I do talk with him again, I will give him a piece of my mind. Thanks again for this site.

We don't recommend that. Not when the scammer has your email address and possibly other personal information. Just ignore him.

Thanks all for posting this. I've been corresponding with "Col. Gibbs" for maybe 2 weeks. Something that made me suspicious is his poor grammar/total lack of command of the English language.- so, I asked him if he or his family was originally from another country - he responded, yes, Spain. So, I thought... okay - family from Spain when he was a kid... but then I thought, if he's really a colonel, he's probably searchable on Google. So, I did. I don't know too many blonde haired, blue eyed Spaniards/Hispanics. And, from the articles I read written by the real Col. Gibs, figured out "my guy" is bogus, because the real Gibbs writes reasonably well. Then I saw the link for this site... cemented the fact - this guy, whoever he is, certainly isn't a soon to retire military officer - having served with distinction, and reaching such high a rank, especially without clear communication skills... in English... The fraud is still using [email protected] to perpetrate this, and is definitely hanging out at christian sites - christianet.com is where he began pursuing me. I'm going to let them know - hopefully they'll ban him before anyone gets hurt there.

Welcome to Scamwarners duckylgf.

The sad fact is that even if he's banned, he'll come back under a new name with a similar story. Very often scammers have a back story of coming from a mixed marriage with one parent non-American to explain their poor writing skills. Having said that, many scammers copy their texts from other online sources and have them prepared ready for use, because this is nothing more than a commercial enterprise to them. It' unlikely that you're the only person he's in contact with.

As a high-ranking officer it makes it more difficult for him to come up with a credible reason for asking for money, but they consider that if you're set up carefully enough, it'll be tough for you to deny them when the time comes. Of course, true love isn't cashable and it's quite pathetic that they feel that they can earn money this way, but the minute cash comes into the equation, you have to step back and re-evaluate what's been going on.

There is never any reason for someone with a lifetime of friends, family and the army around them to ask someone the've just met off the internet for money. If they loved you and their story were true, you'd be the last person they'd ask. I don't recall ever taking loans out from my wife before, or after, we were married. Whatever the circumstancesm you just don't do it. The minute the money request comes out then you should hear the screeching of brakes inside your head.

Hi Foxy,

As Arnold said above, giving a scammer a piece of your mind is a lot like yelling at your radio or television. Scammers see getting yelled as an occupational hazard, much like a door to door sales person realizes many doors will be slammed in their face.

You may feel better giving the scammer a "piece of your mind".
You may also educate the scammer so that he is better at tricking victims.
You may also give the scammer reason to harass you in your real life, spam your email account, have other scammers go after you, or even try to get your email account closed down for abuse.

I agree with Arnold, it is NOT a good idea to give scammers "a piece of your mind".

Hi, Anna Ruth,
nice to see you back!
I hope you are recovering.

As for the scammer still using his old profile (instead of creating a new one within minutes):
Actually, that's a good thing. Each time one of his victims does an internet search with his details, she will stumble upon your thread. That's why you have posted this info - so it will be you helping an unknown lady.
That's a good feeling, isn't it?

Guess I answer at the begining of this. :D Yes, sure is a good feeling. Guess he is pretty confident as he uses the same Yahoo Mesenger ID also. Well, off to bed I go as it is 3:30 AM and I am exhausted. :boohoo:

I got this message in my email today June 8, 2011.: If you want to view the newest post made since your last visit, click the following link:

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=13404&p=55384&e=55384

I went to the link but the message there was dated Col Ricky D. Gibbs
By foxygrandma on Sat Nov 13, 2010 7:47 PM and that is an old one from me.

I went to the last page, link:

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=13404&start=15 and a message by Katharina on Sun May 22, 2011 2:13 am

So, where would the newest message be?

Couldn’t the Central Intelligence Agency or the FBI get the fake Colonel Ricky Gibes? I see that he still is on Yahoo Messenger.

Chances are a spammer came by, trying to drop links in this thread--we delete spam posts as soon as we see them, so that's probably why you got a notification and can't find a post.

The CIA doesn't deal in online scammers, and the FBI doesn't have jurisdiction in the country the scammer is operating from. It is very expensive, time-consuming, and complicated to work with law enforcement from another country, and IC3 (the group responsible for this type of crime) isn't even going to try unless they have evidence of him actually stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars or more.

all right, Dotti. Thank you. I still do not understand how he still gets away wit it. :(

If you go here this is the picture he uses on Yahoo Messenger and other singles sites.

If you go here, you cannot tell which one he is.

If you go here, a completely different looking Gibbs. Maybe the real one.

Maybe this one is the real Gibbs.
