I have been looking for days for an accommodation in New York. I became very familiar with the prices.
I stumped on Airbnb a great, cheap, well located and spacious apartment. Exactly what I wanted.
I then found the same apartment in Roomorama, same description, same photo, a slight price difference but still cheap.
I contacted them through both website and they said to make the booking from theirs.
Which I did, and the website looked very trustworthy.
They replied to me within 10 min, describing again all the quality of the apartment and adding a $300 warranty damaged fee, which I understood.
Because I planned to stay 2 months, they gave me a discount of $300.
The thing that ticked for me is that they were only accepting payments from MoneyGram transfer. No credit card, no paypal, no cash. I am not sure what this is but when the money is sent, you can no longer retrieve it.
My sister lives right next door to the place, I asked if it was possible for her to come by, see the place and/or go to their office.
They said since January 2009 we no longer show apartments prior to arranged check-ins. Actual pictures and specific description of each property are listed on the Ad.

I had my suspicions from the start, so I investigated the name.
Welkom-inn.com was their previous web address (lasted 85 days), they now are welkom-inn.net (37 days to date).

Both of these websites are located in Ghana (Africa) and the owner of the website is using a service to hide their identity.

I have send them a response email asking how they could have change the policy in 2009 if they only existed for a few months.

Right after, I received an email from Roomorama where I had booked (not paid) the place, stating that the apartment is no longer available for the dates I required.
I have yet to receive a response from them, but this is definitely and scam website, please do not pay anything to them.

Thank you for posting this information as a warning to others. Please post the email that shows the request for payment via Western Union ( be sure to remove your personal information first) this email can be used as evidence to get the site shut down.

Legitimate rental companies will let you preview the property before making a deposit and legitimate companies do not ask for a payment via Western Union or Money Gram.

Thanks for posting the initial email. The request for a payment via Money Gran is a guarantee that it is a scam.

5. CANCELLATION: Should you wish to cancel this reservation, notice of cancellation MUST BE IN

will be deducted from the paid rent and you'll be paid the rest.

ready to be vacuumed, dusted and sanitized.

9. WHAT WE SUPPLY: The property is equipped and set up as a fully furnished property that will
include bedspreads, linens, blankets, pillows, towels, as well as a fully equipped kitchen, TVs,
furnishings. All amenities as listed in the AD would be provided.

10. SLEEPING CAPACITY/DISTURBANCES: Renters and all other occupants will be required to
vacate the premises and forfeit the rental fee and security deposit for any of the following: A. Occupancy
exceeding the sleeping capacity stated on the reservation confirmation. B. Using the premises for any
illegal activity, but not limited to, the possession, serving or consumption of alcoholic beverages by or to
persons less than 21 years of age. C. Causing damage to the premises rented or to any of the
neighboring properties. D. Any other acts which interferes with neighbors' right to quiet enjoyment of
