Blackmail Scams - Sextortion Scams

Hello all new to the forums and I am having a similar situation. So back in late July i was talking to a girl off a site called MeetMe. On the site a girl, new member, messaged me talking a little. Asked if we could text and i was up for it and asked for a picture of her because she didn't have a profile picture. Well she sent me a couple nudes, which looked staged like what you would see off a porn site. Anyway jumping forward to last week a guy claiming to be her "dad" calls me leaving me a voicemail. I call back and no answer with no voicemail box set up. Well calls me later and wants me to pay for damages ($800) that I "caused" because his daughter cuts herself and broke a window of his and that he would report me to the police if I did not pay. His number was 202-631-1837 I do not have the females number anymore. I have already reported this to the authorities and blocked his number. Changing my number tomorrow. I think this is a scam, would you all agree?

Well, I believe to be the latest victim. This man called claiming to be the father of the girl and threatened to go to authorities if I didn't agree to pay half of counseling of $2,500. He has had to confer with his "wife" several times. The number is from SC, but she claims to be in Lawton, OK. Her name is Michelle. He hasn't given his yet. Not sure how to paste a link on here but here's photos of her POF site. I'm very nervous over this. I'll include the number they are using also. Same number for daughter/father.

This guy is very convincing and I cannot match a profile or number with any post in these threads. Someone please help. I will report this to ic3 and follow all other suggested precautions in dealing with this, just please help look into it. Thank you for your time, more than you'll ever know!

It is a scam. Ignore all messages and calls from the father and numbers you do not recognize. Follow the directions on page one the first post.

Wow. This is so crazy! So another profile exists? Do I need to report her pof profile to pof? Or do you guys do that while looking into it? Also...again, thank you so much.

The other scamming profile has already been deleted. The link I posted was a cached copy.

Yes. That's her for sure, the "Michelle" profile is still very active. I've reported it to POF and have taken other steps as provided. I've also blocked the SC number from my iPhone from any calls or messages. This is ridiculous, and awful to go through. I can only imagine the money they make on those too ashamed or embarrassed to come forward. You guys really do great work here with this site. God speed.

I just want to point out that the female in the picture has nothing to do with the scam. Her picture was stolen off a social media site and now is being used by a scammer.


Educational Note:
Social media has allowed scammers more avenues to scam and steal photo's. People need to be more proactive of their accounts by protecting them. This means do not accept unknown people and not to post your photos unprotected. Your accounts should be private. If you wish to have a public profile for scammers to steal do not include your children. They will have to deal with your dumb mistake for rest of their lives.

As the commercial states: " You can be who ever you want to be on the internet. "

Ask your self would you give your family photo album or family bible information to someone you do not know??

Do not send questionable photos to anyone. Including spouses and love interest. If done you lost all control over the photos.

You should actually watermark personal photos with an email address . You can report that fake profile to pof . If the fake profile is still online later . I'll report it also .

I understand she has nothing to do with the scammed profile. She's a victim also. These people are scum. Thanks for the advice on watermarking photos. That's a great idea. Sucks she got her pics scammed too. And FYI...even though I reported the profile to POF, it's still online.
