John Gerrick - father
Charlene Gerrick - sister/sister in law ( I got both at different times during the conversations ). Person who picked the money up on walmart to walmart transfer
Erica - daughter
+1 803-591-8067
+1 803-571-3911

That's all I know. I'm scared because I searched and googled and found nothing on those numbers or names. Her okcupid profile was deleted, I think partially because I reported it. Both men that I talked to that answered to John sounded like african american men from the south. Message was over the phone. His daughter supposedly wrecked her car on the way to meet me in a public place and he asked me to pay for half of the damages. Initially 1200, but then it went up to 1500 because it was a BMW. Therapy sessions were 400/session.

This site has eased my mind a bit, but I'll still be scared for a while and I'll be working with the lawyer closely for the next few months. Lesson learned, I'm never getting on a dating site again or ever think about doing some mentoring for someone I don't know again.

So glad I found your forum.
Essentially messaged a girl on okcupid.
She gives me her number and says she is heading to bed.
I text to say have a goodnight but she says she is feeling freaky.
I proceed to receive a picture of her in lowcut jeans and a bra.
We start texting dirty messages.
Then I receive a very pornographic picture of her.
Then the messages start saying she wants to see "what I'm working with"
I ignore it for awhile and she again asks for her to see mine before seeing more of hers.
I was playing along and falling for all this. I was finally convinced to send her a dirty pic of my own.
She says she is making a dirty video for me and then I stop receiving messages.
I checked back on okcupid and could not find the profile.
The # I was receiving these from was 601-258-2589
Then today I receive a message from a very southern sounding man stating he and his wife spent the whole day at the police station but have not pressed charges yet because he did not want them going thru the phone.
He said I need to call him back to know what was going on with his underage daughter before he goes to police.
So I was unnerved and called and he gives me his story about how somehow the pic I sent was going to his wifes phone and the only way to protect me from going to prison is to destroy the phone and/or laptop and stated we could work something out if I sent half the cost to replace these items $750.
I told him I had absolutely no idea she was a minor and the area code he is calling from is not even my state.
He tells me that her signing up broke the okcupid contract and I am still responsible legally.
Told him I could not pay that. He seemed less intent at this point but still asked if I could make payments.
The # he called from was 912-237-0336

So I was on seeking arrangements and was talking to a "23 year old". She asks for number and so what the hell...then she says she is actually only 17, etc. So the usual as I have been reading on here...however...my first call was from the police in my state and it did seem to come from their local office based on reverse number lookup. The guy says he has had a call from SC police and has been talking to "Mr.X" about it....however...I am not being under Miranda and Mr. X seems like an understanding guy and I should call him...no wait, don't call him on his daughter's number, I will call him and have him call you...is that reasonable he asks...so of course, pooping my pants I agree. A short while later Mr. X calls and asks how I met his daughter and how she got caught in summer computer camp and refused to show her phone. She broke a Smart board and been kicked out and he is having to retain an attorney. Of course I said at the time I would be ready to help....he turns all nice, etc.

My question is...would the state level police really tell me to get in touch with the victim parent like that or tell them to call me....

Welcome to Scamwarners,

You did not get a call from the Police. The scammer spoofed the number.

Please post all names, user names where you met the fake female and phone numbers.

The Police do not act as mediators. This is something the scammer thought up.

The Police would not call you. If it was real you would get a knock on the door from the police.

Please contacta moferatorstor if you have a question or information about this post.

Please do not tell the scammer he is posted here.

By the way, following up to my incident on Page 61, my "investigator" texted me using the number 920-350-9436. His name was Jim Perry. After some more threats that week, it has been silence for over a week.

So recently I got engaged in some contact with a girl on OKcupid name AshlynBarnes20 Said she was 18 and to leave a number so she can text since she doesn't get on the site often. Foolish me fell for it. The next morning i get texts from here being nice and sweet and talking about wanting to hangout. I'm from a different city and she claims she's just moved from south carolina. So she sends a normal pic, so do i. Then she sends a nude and I didn't realize it until later in the night. Before I knocked out i sent one suggestive pic. The next day I get a call from her father "david" he calls three times and I ignored it. On the final call he leaves a threatening messages saying I'm in big trouble and that he's going to report me for sexting a 16yr old. I immediately called back and began to apologize. He claims his wife is fuming and that she's the one that's going to the police. He had a fast talking firm southern accent. They were calling from number 512-202-7814. He began to ask what kind of a future I have and that I sound like a decent man and that he'd talk to his wife that wanted to go to the cops. He calls back about 30 minutes later and tells me he's willing to not go to the cops bc it would take months of court and money they didn't want to spend. Instead he wanted me to pay the bill of what it was going to cost to get his daughter to go back to South carolina for some kind of disciplinary school. The bill was 1800 and he claimed half was coming out of his "daughters" account and the other half from me. I told him I couldn't pay 900+ plus up from but that I could do a small payment. We settled on 300 but i didn't know how to send money like that. He quickly began to explain the use of a "green dot" or "moneypak" card sold at walgreens. And that theres a 14-digit number on the back that I would give him for him to receive the money. Being that he only gave me an hour and a half to do this, I ran around and scraped up money from whoever and even requested half my check early. By this time it was time to pay up. He didn't answer my calls over the course of 20 minutes. I made about 5 calls. He calls 30min later and asks if i have the money. I didn't have any clue what a green dot or money bak was and neither did the people at the walgreens. He calls back while i'm looking and sounds mad that I'm taking a while to do this. I told him I found visa and master card reloadable cards, and he is getting angrier that I'm not getting the card he wants. He's willing to talk with the person at walgreens helping me but before I handed off the phone i found it. I loaded the card and tried calling him back. No answer again. I send the numbers via-text and I don't get a reply. I wrote if it worked and 4-1/2hr later he simply replies "I believe so" nothing more. Since I didn't sleep that night I looked up tons of forums and scam sites that say this was a scam and that I had nothing to fear except hearing their awful southern voice. This is now day 3 and I haven't slept nor eaten. But I have taken the steps in blocking numbers and changing/deactivating social media accounts. I know by now I shouldn't worry, but It's weighing heavily on my mind. If this is 100% a scam, I would love to hand over anything that can trace back to those assholes. Also, if there's anyone who's been through this and months or years have gone by, I would love to hear some feedback on how to get past this overwhelming fear.

It is 100% a scam.

I highly suggest changing your phone number. He will contact you again.

The reason he does not answer the phone is because he is spoofing it. He can't answer that number.

He needed the preferred payment because it is non traceable.

Please do not engage with other members who say they been through this. You will never know who you are contacting.

Thank you for confirming my suspicions. You're right about not doing personal messages. Instead it is best to expose them through these forums because it seems they change or have multiple numbers. I know it'll still be some time until these fears and worries pass, but I'm glad to know that it really isn't a minor who is doing this. I'm extremely upset that I fell into this trap.

I saw that page about reporting it but I don't feel comfortable giving my full name or address. Instead I've been finding a little more comfort in reading others situations through forums that did the proper actions in blocking these people or simply ignoring them. I would love to call them out if they call back but I prefer not to build up more drama behind all this mess. I just want my life to move on. Im going to give it til the beginning of august to give an update but as of today I haven't received any calls leaving voicemails or texts from any strange numbers. The first 2 days I did and I blocked them.

I fear that I'll always have this fear in the back of my head, but I'm hoping in time my life will head in a better direction to help me forget all this. Anyone who reads this and is months past it, please share through a forum how you coped with it. I'm sure it'll help people with high anxiety levels.
