Hi, I also recived several mails from a Sgt/Mjr. George Leonard, from afghanistan asking me for a leave request for him. he also told me a story about he being widow with a little boy and even sended picts for me. He started telling me he loved me and so and so after that the first thing was to ask me money to send to his son in Britain. Then after i said i didnt have any money he asked me for a leave request in behalf of him. I also knew that this leave request has no fees but the General (a dead general by the way Robert Friedman) tells me that i have to pay the sume of 2,350 US$ to someone in britain. He also approved the leave request.
i confronted him and he denied till the end.
here the mails he uses:

[email protected]

[email protected]
I also found that Sgt/Mj. George Leonard died in the WWII.

also the mails from the general:
[email protected];

he also has a facebook profile and a myspace profile and also uses yahoo mess.
He made a big mistake telling me he was at Camp Victory .... Afghanistan????? Ladys and Gentelmen Guess what, Camp Victory is a multinational facilitie IN IRAK.
The documents they used looked pretty real but US Army never asks for money in this cases.
Besides the soldier is the only one to be able to ask for vacations like any worker.
BE AWARE HE LOOKS SO NICE AND SO GOOD MAN BUT HE IS JUST A SCAMMER.
PS: i knew the scam so thank god i didnt fall. but im sure that somebody has.

Cathy, I would recommend that you talk to the Postal Inspector as they do not like their documents being forged. Keep the Fedex box and emails as proof of the scam that they tried to pull you in to. Don't tip off the scammer to what you are doing. Just stop responding to the scammer. They usually send an email asking if you have deposited the check. Take that with you.

You can just rip up the check, what ever you do, do not deposit the check.

Well I feel like the biggest fool in the world and after reading all your posts I'm glad I listened to the little voice inside. I thought I had recently meet the guy of my dreams, but as it looks like its a scammer...Goes by the name of Staff Sergeant Robert Becker...phoenix camp..Kabul..meet through Facebook and this guy is slicker than an oil field. Got the poems, got the "I need to see you"...just got as of today "You could apply for vocational leave" speech..Oh I cant believe I shed tears when he went missing for 5 days..apparently very busy man..commands a small specialised team...Oh now I'm just angry!! But I do however feel very sorry for the soldier that has had his picture stolen...would love to let him know his face is being used. Traced the IP address to Sunnyvale. CA....Thanks ladies for all you info for this very hurt girl :)

Fortunately you listened to that voice FeelFoolish and didn't send any money to the scammer.

Please post the email address and some emails, especially the early ones up. Also it sounds like you checked the headers, please post those as well. That information will help others.

There isn't much the person whose pictures were taken can do. They are already out in scam land. You can post them in the Fake documents & photos topic. Please follow the rules regarding defacing the pictures.

Regarding feeling foolish, please read this recent post by Gomer Pyle: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=17899&p=51583#p51583

Scammers are excellent at fooling people of all kinds. It is their trade or occupation.

Sorry I cant post the headers to the emails as this lady went on a rampage and deleted the files...but however his email [email protected]. I only had a couple of emails from him..most of the correspondence was through Facebook...but we did manage to IM for the first time yesterday (after 4 mths)..and his replies just didnt sit right with me, not what I expected from a young guy. Now its time for me to not reply to his messages..interested to see how desperate he gets...Chalk this one up to experience and thank goodness I hadn't told anyone yet..how embarassing :(

Thank you FeelFoolish. It is best if you just drop the scammer immediately and completely. Block his email address and IM. Block his ability to IM you and start moving on from this scammer and the damage he has done to you.

Certainly, if you have any questions post them up for help to you ad so others can learn too. We are glad you are here!

They just don't give up...I have deleted him from facebook and blocked IM access and I come back from a few days away to process all of this to find email after email...pleading with me to reply to him because he doesn't know what he's done wrong...he misses me..blah blah blah.

Did right down the IP addresses this time.. SunnyVale CA 98.138.90.254.....98.138.90.52 both saying ISP is yahoo..then I had Nashville 98.138.88.233 ISP windstream communications.

I have had enough..argg..we need to turn the tide on these guys..

That's Yahoo, so no indication of where the scammer is. Almost certainly West Africa though.

The fact is FeelFoolish that it's okay to feel foolish.

How would you feel if a rattler bit you ? At least if you went in to the desert you'd be aware that snakes were out there but you weren't expecting them on the website you visited. If people had the slightest idea of what to expect, scammers wouldn't have any success.

Everyone has a vulnerability that a scammer can exploit, whether it's emotional, financial or their situation in life and the risk is in not realising it. As soon as you understand what your vulnerabilities are - they are no longer a risk.

Remember how he manipulated you to exploit you and learn from it. It may taste bitter going over what he did in your mind but it will empower you to learn from the experience.

yes he is still doing this and is now located on www.tagged.com as Robert Becker, is that the same pictures that he had given you? I have filed with the US Army for an investigation into the impersonation. You can take the girl out of the uniform but you will never take the cop out of the girl!

tbekker:

Can you post the email address the scammer used with you?

There are actually many African scammers using the same "US soldier" format, so the same approach doesn't mean it will be the same scammer. However, with the Beck/Becker similarity, it is possible it is the same scammer or scamming gang, and they could be using the same scripts. Since FeelFoolish no longer had the emails, if you still have any of his messages and can post them, it will help others--these scripts may be used again and again, even as names and email addresses are changed.

As far as the investigation goes, while it is good to report either way, I wouldn't hold my breath on that one. The scammers aren't in the US or anywhere in reach of the real US Army. The photos were simply stolen from the internet. The resources (and cooperation) simply aren't available to launch the many international investigations that would be required to address these scammers.

the email was the same ... [email protected]
My reason for forwarding it to the military is that they should be aware that photos of a us solider are being used, the proper soldier whose face is being used deserves to know that he has been a victim of identity theft. I use to be in a military police unit and feel obligated to protect the serving members identity.

EMAIL:

Hello Gorgeous,

Thanks for taking the time to respond, makes me feel we've got a connection already. I can tell that am searching for the love of my life, whom we can make a perfect match. I am an honest person that has no reason to lie. I will love to tell you more about me. A very good friend of mine got me started on the internet as a way of finding my soul mate. You'll need to know that I'm serving the US Army and currently on deployment here in Afghanistan. I am from Brockport, New York. I have been to a bunch of places in the world, some of them hot spots (more like war zones), and continue to do so today. I am privileged to have served with highly professional individuals at National Guard, and the tradition continues now in the Army. I'm fortunate to command a small, very specialized unit and get to interact with many guys on the tip of the spear: US service members of all branches and ranks, Coalition forces, contractors and locals.

I feel I've got a perspective not often seen in the media. Seeing as I'm heading back home soon, that also gives me a 'different' perspective. I generally socialize outside of the military community since I'm single and my peers are pretty much all married with children. I am an avid athlete, having played most sports at one time or another - everything from Adventure racing to Wiffle ball! These days I mostly play rugby and lift weights. And someday I'll move back home to and be able to surf, paddle and dive like I love to do.I want you to know am a man of one woman, i treat my woman with respect and care. Am an affectionate and passionate man. I love kids and pets. What do you seek in your idea man? Am a caring man, who show my woman what true love means, i work according to word of God. I'm a romantic man, I love going to the beach, listen to musics, love taking a walk, love going to the cinemas. I would describe myself as very caring a gentle and positive person, Very generous and like life and like meeting people . Have a good sense of humor. Life is too short so i live life to the fullest.

I had like to meet a woman who is caring and considerate, someone I can trust and who will trust me and will always be honest with me, someone who enjoys laughing at the silly things that happen in life. Someone who is willing to share the work to make our home a comfortable place. Someone who likes to live in a tidy house too, I do not like to have things very messy.I am happy to share in all of the work required to keep the house clean. If someone was like that and loved me for who I am too, I would be a very happy man. I am very happy to have a message from you, makes me feel things would be alright. I just hope we can find a way to be able to meet and chat and get to know ourselves better and start from there. I hope you'll get back to me.

Your Soldier Friend,
Robert

Unfortunately, the reality today is that if you are a male soldier, and there are multiple photos of you posted on the internet that are not watermarked to prevent copying, it is pretty much a guarantee that those photos will be used by scammers.

That email is definitely a typical scammer start. There are several mistakes that point squarely to an African author.

This is a perfect example of how prevalent these scammers are. I picked one line that is pretty unique, (the line mentioning Wiffle ball). I should expect to see no exact matches, maybe one or two in a random, strange coincidence. Look at what I actually get:
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22everything+from+Adventure+racing+to+Wiffle+ball%22&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

Yes this is the exact same photo that 'Becker' used and it would seem he has come 'across' some new ones. When I read the email he sent you, I had chills..it is word perfect! I have had private contact from 3 ladies now who have been sucked in by him..but luckily found my post on here and stopped before it went too far. Thanks for being You and following your gut.
