I’m from the UK and saw your documentary too. I have been talking to a guy called sgt mitchell ramos on MSN who claimed he a US soldier and divorced with a 14 yr old daughter here in the UK staying with her auntie and he relocated to the UK as he is British and got recalled back to Afghanistan in October 2010. Ive been talking to him for 8 weeks now and he seemed really genuine until my mum warned me about the news of scammers posing as us soldiers....he asked me for leave request too as his 3 month tour was getting extended by another 6 months and he wanted to come home to be with me and retire. He said only a few soldiers were being allowed to request a liberty pass and it had to be done by a relative. As soon as money was involved by his 'general's emails ([email protected]) I confronted him and he said he knew all about it and was 'interrogated' by a Lt Col as to who i was as i had complained about it to the 'general'.....he said all his stuff has been faked by the army cos of the nature of his job being a staff sergeant...yeah right! He is adamant he is the real person yet i was not convinced so i contacted two women from his MSN profile and they both confirmed he is not who he says he is and had given them different stories about him. I have tracked all his mails and even the ones from the general, his daughter and his aunt and surprise surprise they all come from nigeria, libya, uk and the us. I cant believe that people can steal real soldiers photos and pose as them. Ive tracked the real guy to his Myspace and left him a message but he has not been on it since july 2010 so i dont know if he will ever know whats being done to him...

This is what he told me:-

He was from california but moved to Spain with his Mother when he was 4 and returned to the US when he was 18.
His Spainish name is Ramos
He owned a coco business in Nigeria
His Dad died when he was 23
His mum died 2 years ago
He has lost all contact with his Spainish and American family
He got a degree in Mechancial Engineering in California before attending West Point in New York
He meet his English wife at university and relocated back to the UK.
His house is in the West Midlands
He is a Widower, his pregnant wife died in a car accident 4 years ago when he was out of the country
He has a 14 year old daughter Karen who lives in Chelsea, London, with her 64 year old auntie
He has been in Afganistan for a year and a 1/2 and is with 35 Infantry regiment. He is a bomb specialist
He was friends with 5 of the soldiers killed in the helicopter that was shot down by the Taliban the other weekend (that is a shameful thing to say)
Because of the present trouble all deployment was supposed to be extended but a limited amount of soldiers would be allowed leave. Only family memebers or loved ones could apply for this leave between the age of 18 and 60 and unfortuneately neither 'Karen' or her 'auntie' came in this age range. I applied for his leave and filled in various forms but called a halt to everything once the money come into the mix and I started researching
I will be talking to the police about this as I have passed on my home address, date of birth and telephone numbers

I think it is totally shameful that whilst our (and American) armed forces are laying down their lives daily these scumbags are talking advantage of innocent people
I have contact Uniform dating and this person is now blocked from their site

Please please take this as a warning to everyone. Just google Sgt Edwards you'll find loads of stuff. Don't be
sucked in by his charm he is def too good to be true

omg it is more or less identical to what he told me I have spoken to 2 people since this guy is a scum bag I really think that these sites should have free forums for people to post "dodgy" people on so people can be warned before getting taken in. Unfortunately I didnt and sent some cash before I googled him.

Is stg Edwards same as " Stg David Wheelbarger" ? It sounds very alike, the details about being in Afghanistan, the tour extending, being in Kabul when the helicopter was shut down etc .

don't know if this is the same person but i have had someone call cptronald smith claiming to be in the us army and stating if i send a message to [email protected] he will get leave and has asked me to pay the small fee to get to the uk which is between 300 and 500 pounds ? true or a scam?
#66795 by cazbro1961 Tue Sep 13, 2011 2:42 pm
sounds like a scam the military have access to their money so if he needs to get to the UK then he should be able to fund himself. DON'T part with any money
#66816 by Katharina Tue Sep 13, 2011 4:59 pm
Yes, it is definitely a scam. The email address is from a free email provider, is does not belong to the US army.

For examples of military scams, you can look at the official website of the US Army here:
http://www.army.mil/search/index.php?search=scam

and this is how real email addresses look like
[email protected]

Please ignore this scumbag from now on. Don't answer his email, block him from chat, don't accept his phone calls. He may be persistent, but when he realises he can't steal your money he will go away. Don't confront him, don't tell him you found out, he will only tell you lies, and you have suffered enough already.

I hope you will recover soon from this ugly experience. And if you want to help others, please post all the details he gave you - phone number, email addresses, account on the dating site.
