This guy claims to be working out on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. He's had a hard life - he was living in Miami, Florida, until his wife was tragically killed in a car accident, and he's had to send his only son, Josh, to a missionary school in Turkey, while Philip is working long days as a drilling engineer. He's 7 months into a 10 month contract. Once done, he's looking to retire back to the US and find a new Mrs Clayton.

He's keen to have you contact his son - [email protected] - Josh didn't initially respond, but did later reply to all emails with the same copy/pasted message over the holidays, regardless of what the original message said.

Philip is desperate to see his son again, but the only way is to request vacation time away from the rig, asking you to write to [email protected] ("US Department") on his behalf. Commander Watson will reply with a price list:

This is our vacation Duration for Contractors.
: 24 weeks:costs $63,500
: 12 weeks:costs $38,200
: 8 weeks: costs $24,850
: 5 weeks: cost $5,000

Note: any money you spent on Mr.Philip Clayton holiday will be refunded to you, as guaranteed by the National Department of Oil Transcorp and Human Resources.

MAIN ENGINEER, responsible for the holiday as well as your request, Please return to us with the assurance that engineer Mr. Philip Clayton is safe with you.

A replacement will be made in the absence of Mr. Philip Clayton on his vacation. The required holiday costs shall be financed from the replaced contractor.

We will be happy to know the plan of the holidays in which you can afford, we will process your request immediately. The above holiday fee will be refunded once Mr. Philip Clayton returns to the rig.

...and there we see the crux of the scam. A tracking link reported this scammer's location to be in Ghana.
