Information on romance scams and scammers.

I just thought I would share this with you all, as I thought it was a good response, and actually a valuable resource.
In researching a scammer to provide further proof of scam for a victim, I learned that some of the photos had an ATK exotics (adult site) watermark on them. As I really wasn't thrilled with the idea of surfing porn sites to try to get real name of the model, I emailed their customer service, explaining that I knew with absolute certainty that the photos were being used by a scammer but the victim was hooked, so I wanted to know if there was some sort of search function that would enable me to quickly identify the model so that I could provide compelling evidence to the victim.

This was their response:

Thank you for your email.

We are well aware of this scam and have been combating it for years.
Many have written explaining this same story, ranging from suspicion
to having wired money to this imposer. There are no models on our
site from Ghana. We are seeing more and more of this originate from
this region of Africa. Unfortunately our attempts to contact local
law enforcement were met with resistance. We have begun blocking
these countries from entering our sites and using our service in hopes
to curb their abuse. We are also aware of credit card fraud
originating from these same areas as we also face problems with
fraudulent transactions. Our results are conclusive these are the
same users. We've found the pattern is always the same, the user's in
every instance use a yahoo.com

email address and give a sob story
along with images from our sites. Stories range from sick family
members, to moving a business, to needing a husband and on and on.
We've been sent images of passports also with our models faces in the
picture.

In our research, every one of the complaints we have researched coming
from the south western coast of Africa have been scams. We ask that
you please warn everyone about these verified and documented issues.
This is also believed to be the same scam ring that eBay is working to
ban from using the site, but that has not been proven.

The images almost always come from ATK Exotics, but you can search the
site here:

Just choose the photographer name. The names never match, so you may
have to hunt a little bit for the model. The models they choose are
black models, and generally light skinned. You can provide these
links to the victims if you need to. I'm sure you're doing your best
to help protect people from these scams, thank you for this service.

Best regards,

Customer Support Specialist

That is a great response from them, thank you for sharing.

I once try to have ebay UK ban an Ip of a persistent scammer who created new ebay accounts at will, I provided lots of information and evidence and got passed from one department to another.

Finally they sent me an online survey as to how I rated their feedback system

My response was not one of appreciation, after being passed from Ebay Uk to Ebay AU, a live chat seeion and futher transfering, all they seemed to care about was my ebay user ID.

After that experience, it is nice to know that a company out there is willing to help.
