Online users are at risk of handing over large sums of money as conmen - claiming to work for the BBC - advertise vehicles on the cheap.

In a Daily Star Online investigation, we can reveal that schemers in France are using the vehicle-selling website to lure people in to a trap.

From what we found, the trickster would get access to an AutoTrader seller's advert and change the details.

Those enquiring about the cheap listing would then be diverted to a fake email address run by the fraudster.

A little late to the party but at least the risks are being publicised, even if they don't quite have the full details.
