Father and son threatened at knifepoint by fake Gumtree thug during buyer exchange

POLICE have warned about the dangers of buying and selling online as well as giving advice on how to arrange face to face cash transactions.

A THUG posing as buyer on Gumtree threatened a father and son at knifepoint after luring them to a false meet-up.

The 50-year-old man and his 18-year-old son had arranged to hand over the goods during a prearranged face-to-face meeting when the attacker attempted to rob them using a knife.

Chief Inspector Mark Sutherland told the Evening Times: "This was a frightening incident for the two victims but thankfully neither were physically harmed.

He added: "I would remind everyone who uses internet auction sites to follow simple safety advice at all times, especially when meeting face to face to exchange goods or money.

"Always have someone with you and where possible meet in a public place that is well light with plenty of people about.
