November 12th

A Liverpool woman who conned money out of around 100 people through bogus holiday lets has been jailed.

Tracy Green, of Hey Park, answered adverts people had placed online looking for holiday accommodation or short-terms lets. She responded to them offering accommodation with the victims transferring money into her bank account.

Once the money had been transferred the 29-year old stopped all contact with the victims, some of whom were from Matlock, Long Eaton, Hatton, Ilkeston and Derby. The victims then realised the property they had booked didn’t exist or was not available.

She had also set up bank accounts and email addresses in fictitious names but a detailed investigation traced her to a house in Furness Vale, where she was arrested in April.

Green was handed 20 months for the frauds and 10 months for breaching a series of suspended sentences for fraud when she was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court.

Note how easily a low level fraudster with a string of previous convictions can open bank accounts in fake names.
