Three people were arrested in Hong Kong after 60 fans of a South Korean boy band were duped out of more than HK$300,000 in a tickets scam.

Two women were among those held at Sheung Shui and Tin Shui Wai.
They were identified as Tsang, 23, and Lee, 21.
Li, a male, 23, was also detained.

They were still being held for questioning last night on suspicion of obtaining property by deception.

Fans of the band Big Bang paid online for their non-existent tickets to Seoul concerts earlier this month.
Most of the victims were then told to fly to the South Korean capital and collect their tickets at a subway station.
They realized they had been cheated when no one showed up.

In their raids yesterday, police officers also seized HK$15,000 cash, a diamond ring, a laptop, a mobile phone, a bank card and several receipts.

Officers said the 60 cases of deception, involving Instagram, an online photo-sharing site, were reported on Monday.

"The three suspects requested their clients transfer money to a bank account first before getting their tickets at Myeong-dong metro station in Seoul," chief inspector Li Suk-yee, of the New Territories North regional crime unit said.

Li said the 180 tickets in total cost HK$740 each, with a handling fee of HK$980, bringing in more than HK$309,000.

The victims, including a man and 59 women, are aged between 15 and 43.
They are mainly Hong Kong citizens, with some from Macau, the mainland and Malaysia.
Fifty-four realized they were being scammed shortly after arriving in South Korea.

Police remind the public to beware when making online transactions. They should authenticate the identity of bother sellers and buyers before any money transfers.

The five-man Big Bang are one of the top K-pop bands.
Their world tour will continue in Hong Kong, the mainland, Thailand and Japan.

I could only find this article in English and it does not mention about how Instagram was used but in the report in the other language it says that the scammers used Instagram account to pretend they are friends with the band's tour staff to phish the fans.
