The victim appears to have received a counterfeit cheque and he then spent the money.

Xxxxx, allegedly told the credit union he would repay the money, but after failing to meet two separate deadlines, was turned into police.

According to the complaint, when police asked what had happened to the money, Xxxxx told them that he “blew it.”

Xxxxx, who has been charged with fraud of a financial institution, made his first appearance in court on Wednesday and was released on a $1,000 signature bond.

If you're tricked in to paying a counterfeit cheque in to your account the consequences can be worse than just losing your money. The factor that makes it worse is that you haven't just defaulted on a loan or a debt. The scammer has caused you to commit an offence which can turn it in to a police matter.
