Woman knocked at the door earlier, obviously deaf, and had a card with her saying that she was deaf, out of a job and needed to sell her drawings to help support herself and two children. She produced a black folder with a number of what looked like nice pencil drawings, horses, dogs, one scenic bridge drawing. Priced £13-£15 each.
Now, being a seasoned scam baiter you think that alarm bells ought to ring, they didn't, and I bought one of the drawings.
I've just done a bit of googling 'deaf woman selling pencil drawings'
I have to say I feel a prize idiot for not thinking before acting. On closer inspection the 'drawing' is a machine produced copy, it has pixels where you should see pencil strokes, the paper is of good quality and very smooth, it is most certainly not an original. This is a view under the microscope of the horse's left ear. You can see pixels not pencil strokes.
