Hi all,

I am here out of desperation. I have been chatting with a guy online for almost 3 years now....but he always has an excuse for not being able to meet. He has even threatened me at times when I tell him I am going to go away. The only way he communicates with me is through Yahoo Messenger. He tells me he is out of FT Worth, TX but I believe that is a lie. He has threatened to blackmail a friend also with photos he has (long story) ...I read how to get a direct connection to try and get his IP by sending a file through messenger and using CMD: netstat -n .... These are the IP's it gave me, but I don;t know how to tell which is his :( Please help.

You know he's a scammer, so what are you hoping to achieve by getting his IP address? It will probably resolve to somewhere thousands of miles from where he claims to be and realistically, the IP tells you nothing except the city or country where his ISP is based.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

The only one that could give any clue as to his location is the one in Nerdie, and this turns out to be a server at stablehost.com, not an end user connection. A better way to figure out where he's from (which is not necessarily where he is) is to post the messages he sends and let us look for linguistic evidence. Some of them, especially the earliest ones, may be script, which means that others may be searching for the same text.
