Ok, so I fell prey to this. However, I was given a supervisor who I both talked to verbally and had converstations on email. I was not asked to use any of my own money and I did receive packages which I then filled out paperwork for and resent just as explained on their website http://www.theusaddress.com. I have not been compensated as stated in the original employment agreement and now my supervisors phone number states disconnected. So do you think I was just used to ship some items, what other recourse could come to me?? If the items were purchased on a stolen credit card and I then shipped them out of the country could I be held liable??? Now I'm nervous.....

Hi ginger4 and welcome to SW, but I am sorry it is for this reason. :(

Can you post up more details please? Some of the emails between you and these scammers and the phone numbers they are using would be great. (Of course you can remove your personal details before posting.) There are several people working hard to get their fake website closed, but the hoster and registrar aren't being particularly cooperative, but they will keep working on it.

How did you reship these packages? How was the reshipping paid for? Did you pay for anything and are you out any money? Information like this can be very helpful.

As far as your concerns, just stop all contact with these scammers. If they email you or call you, just tell them you got a new job and you are no longer interested. They might try to bug you a bit more, but just don't reply to their emails and hang up the phone if they call. They are used to people doing this to them and they will usually move on to someone else more cooperative.

What personal information do they have of yours? You should probably check out this thread here: A basic guide to scams and there is some information about what to do.

If you receive any more packages from them to reship, try to refuse delivery, but if you can't, do not open them and take them to your police department with the copies of the emails you have from them. You won't be in trouble -- you have done nothing wrong as you have been the victim of a scam. And they will be able to help deal with the package(s). Or you can contact the postal service or shipping company (USPS, UPS. FedEx, etc) and explain the situation to them and they should be able to help.

Please post back with more information if you can. I am glad you are aware it is a scam now. :)

The process was that Maria would call me to let me know a package was on the way including the tracking number and item description. Once I received a package I would open it up, take out any invoice, take pictures of the items and email the pictures along with an inspection form to my supervisor, maria. She would then email me the new pre-paid shipping labels which I would apply and then take the package to the post office or drop off at UPS. Nothing was ever questioned by the shipping company when I reshipped either. No out of pocket expenses for me at all other than driving to the post office.

The information they have of me from the employment agreement is my name, address, phone number, and employment history. I never supplied my SSN, but can they obtain it based on what I provided??

It is possible they could track down your SSN, so you should be cautious and keep a close eye on your credit reports for a while.

You said you had to take photos and the such? What kind of items were you receiving? Where were they from and where were you sending them on to? Do you still have the details and photos? It would be very helpful in trying to get these scam sites shut down and help prevent other victims.

Also important are the headers of the emails from the scammers/'Maria'. If you don't know how to get the headers, just post back with what email provider you are using (gmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc) and I would be happy to help you figure that out, or you can read more here: http://www.spamcop.net/fom-serve/cache/19.html

If you are uncomfortable posting more detail information in this thread, you can feel free to send me additional information via the PM system here on the forum or to my email address dorawarner (at) gmail.com.
