Good Morning All,
I thought it may be a good idea to discuss ways to spot a fake ad for employment. As a job seeker, many probably use employment sites such as Indeed, Monster, ZipRecruiter, etc. Scammers post fake ads on these sites with the intent of luring you in. They will use the names of legitimate companies so that they appear legit. Take a look at the ad below which was posted on Indeed.com:

SSA - Lead Generator represents the Company as a marketing agent of products and services at a major retail outlet by providing first contact with potential customers, providing information on heating and cooling products and services, and coordinating the appointment process with the Sales Representative.
MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
1 year Customer Service.
1 year Sales
A High School diploma, or GED equivalent, and prior work experience is desired.
The ability to work evenings and weekends with minimal supervision is also required.
Duties:
Solicits potential customers regarding heating and cooling products and services.
Provides information to customers to help them in their purchasing decisions for Company products and services.
Travels to retail outlet and performs independently.
Accurately and timely processes lead sheets and all other appropriate paperwork as required.
Attends all training programs as required.
Maintains table/booth with information regarding Company products and services.
Follows the guidelines for the Senior Care, Ethics, and Quality Assurance Process.
We conduct pre-employment screening.

Now, when reviewing this ad, note that the name used as the job poster is "Asbury Automotive Group" which would indicate that they are an auto dealership yet, the ad states you would be involved in selling heating & cooling products and services. Upon doing a simple Google search, I discovered that Asbury Automotive Group is, in fact, a business that operates auto dealerships throughout the Southern United States with their corporate office located in Duluth, GA. They have NO dealerships in New York (Look at job location posted) and in no way are they involved in "cooling and heating." This is just one example of many fake ads posted on career sites. If you come across an ad that doesn't look quite right to you, before applying try a Google search and see if you can locate the company's website. Do some research. Are they involved in the industry which the ad is claiming? Do they have locations in the area? Many company websites have a careers section where they post open positions which they have available. Is the job listed in the ad posted on their career portal? Doing a bit of research could save you from becoming a potential scam victim.
