beardequipment.com is registered since 1998 and is located in Florida with a location in Alabama. It is legitimate, as far as I can tell. The email was written by someone who is not in Florida or Alabama, but in West Africa. It is a scam.

Holy moly,
I just got a check sent to my personal mail box that looks like a real cashier's check from Union Bank of California. It is sent from a Brian Hamlin, C.L. Sheldon, LLC (which looks like a legit company that does financial advising for military personnel) but the check itself referenced a "Tony Bruce". I don't know either name, don't know and didn't keep the email from the guy that I responded to on Craig's list, but the above email looks exactly like it.

I don't want to do anything with this check! Yikes!

Give the fake check and mailer to your banks fraud dept. Tell them about the scam. This way your bank can notify the other victims bank and the victim of the hacked mail account (USPS, Fedex or etc)

The check is either fake or from a hacked bank account.

Stop all contact with scammer. You do not need to explain anything to him.

Please contacta moferatorstor if you have a question or information about this post.

Please do not tell the scammer he is posted here.

I got a check too from Patricia Bailey I turned it into the police along with a record of the emails. Check looks real but would've ruined your life probably! Good you didn't cash it, it's not a check anyway.

Yeah! He is still phishing Craigslist, but under the e-mail "[email protected]"

I've looked Debbie Epperson up on Google, and she happens to be a heavy hitter on Alabama's Real Estate scene. So I reached out to her, because I figured that this would tarnish her reputation somehow, and she responded quite defensively (understandably, I guess).
She went on about how she can't police people on the internet (of which i didn't ask her to do), and she has heard from a number of other people who have contacted her behind this Brian dude. She is aware that this jerk is doing this, but she is pretty much rolling over for him.
I didn't give him any of my information, so I suggest no one else does either...

This is the email he sent me this morning:

I received the same email in response to a job posting on ZipRecruiter. However, he has changed his email address to [email protected]. The job posting was for a personal assistant for the owner of Jimboy's Tacos in Memphis making $81,700/yr. I should have realized it was fake since we don't have Jimboy's in Memphis, they are only in California.

Now should I be worried?.. I'm in need of a job but not that bad and what do people like him benefit from?

Thanks for the update! As before, the writing is obviously African. The check will be for way too much, and the scammer will want the excess sent to someone who will forward it to him.
