Scams selling or giving away non-existent animals, often Puppy Scams.

How do I know if the person is scamming me? Would they be willing to help pay for the shipping of the kitten?
I tried to find the photos they sent me on my email, online, but I couldn't. There wasn't any photo similar to the ones sent to me.

Is ca.catadoptions.com a bad site to get a kitten? Should I not trust them? They haven't asked me to pay anything yet. I just said I couldn't pay all the shipping and they said they would help.

The kitten would come with a care and instruction package, all the paperwork, vaccines, health certificate, guarantee, pedigree, travel crate, micro-chip, blankets and some food.

They also want photo's as it grows.

Is this a scam? Please tell me.

You have posted basic information. From the little that you have posted I would say it is a scam.

Please post the emails and email addresses sent to you. We can look into it further.

Also read here http://www.ipata.org/pet-scams/

If the person mentions Cameroon, Western Union, Moneygram, Pre-paid Reload card or Bank Transfer consider it a scam.

Please buy or adopt your pet locally. This way you can physically see the pet, meet the owners and see the conditions it was raised.

Please contacta moferatorstor if you have a question or information about this post.

Please do not tell the scammer he is posted here.

1ST EMAIL PICS INCLUDED

Hello,
Thanks for your inquiry about my kittens. I have a male and
female available to give out. They are 12 weeks old, vet checked and
registered, well trained and love the company of children and other
household pets. They are healthy and have all their complete
documents. We are giving out these kittens because our son is sick and
recently became allergic to animals, so our doctor advised us to give
out the kittens. Honestly we do feel sad to give out these kittens but
we got no choice since our son's health is very important to us. All
we now want is for these kittens to move into a loving and caring
home. Before giving these kittens away, we would like to ask you some
few questions:
Have you ever raised a kitten before?
which breed are you interested in?
Do you have a contact number you can be reached on?
Do you have experience with this breed?
Why are you looking for a kitten/kittens?
Do you have a vet around your home?
Where are you located?
Can you afford for the transportation of the kitten/kittens?
Would you like to have the male or the female or maybe both siblings?
How soon do you need the kitten/kittens?
Sorry if we had asked many questions, we just want to be
sure these kittens get the love and care they need. Looking forward to
hearing from you.

2ND EMAIL

Hello Xxxxxx,
Thanks for getting back to us and sorry for the late respond .
They are an excellent example of
the breed. They are healthy, intelligent and have a loving and
playful personality. They loves much attention and to be pampered, the
are 12 weeks old, vet checked, de-wormed, micro-chipped and have all
her vaccines up to date, they are comforted and walks around the
house. They loves the company of both children and adults. We recently
moved to Regina, SK .since we had to move closer to my son's doctor and

since you are far from our present location, we would arrange for an
overnight delivery of the kittens using a nearby delivery agency in
charge of pets transportation which is near our home this evening. You
would just have to pay for the delivery of the kitten to your home as
we are more interested in a caring and loving home than the money to
be paid for purchase. To arrange for his delivery, we would need the
following details in this order:
FULL NAMES...........
HOUSE ADDRESS.........
CITY............
POSTCODE...........
MOBILE NUMBER..........
LAND LINE NUMBER.........
EMAIL ADDRESS...........
AS soon as you provide us with the above details, we would quickly
prepare the change of ownership documents and arrange for a home
delivery to your doorstep. You would be paying the sum of $380 the kitten
to the delivery agency directly for the transportation cost of the kitten.
This money you would have to pay will be for
the delivery of the kittens to your home and cost of kittens. He would have a care and
instruction package that would assist you in providing an easy
transition to he new forever home. We would also send all paperwork
including details of current vaccinations, veterinarian examination,
health certificate, health guarantee, pedigree, travel crate,
micro-chipped (in case they ever lost or stolen) and all other health
certificates at our disposal, blankets and some food with the delivery
agency in charge of the transportation of the kittens to your home.
Hope you take proper care, cuddle and even spoil this kitten for us
OK? and do send us updated pictures as this kitten grows OK?

Looking Forward for your Respond.
xx

Just to clarify one point:

People who have exotic purebred kittens that they cannot keep are highly unlikely to give them away to strangers. In most cases, they will give them to friends or family members, return them to the breeder, or sell them in order to recoup some of the money they spent. If they don't do any of those things, they are more likely to turn them over to a shelter or rescue group than post them for free.

If none of the above happens (which is HIGHLY unlikely) , and the people do decide to post an ad and give them away, they are not going to be shipping them to strangers, period. Shipping is actually fairly complicated and expensive. It will NOT be used for free or extremely inexpensive kittens.

In reality there will be lots of local people who are willing to pick up the kittens, or even drive quite a distance to get them. As a long-time rescuer, I have seen this many, many times. All I have to do is post a picture of a kitten that looks exotic, and within a few days I will be hearing from people both near and far away--including people who won't hesitate to jump in the car and drive hundreds of miles to adopt him or her. The last little Siamese mix I posted had a dozen families wanting her, and her photo was posted for less than 48 hours. Having talked to rescuers in Canada many times, I can tell you that the situation is the same in Canada as in the US (where I am located.)

The truth is, the moment anyone starts talking about shipping free or very inexpensive exotic kittens to you--there's already no doubt. It's a scam.

Classified ads sites are legitimate themselves--but the truth is ANY site like that is loaded with scammers who take advantage of a way to set up their scams.

I got caught by this scam. My daughter found a kitten online and had lots of messages back and forth. It was all very convincing and I deposited $200.00 into a bank account. When they asked for $1,000.00 to rent an animal air freight crate I thought something was strange as I had a dog air freighted once. I was lucky to lose only $200.00! This was 10 months ago. I reported it to the Australian Government Internet Fraud Watchdog. If you want a pedigree cat purchase from a local breeder registered with the appropriate Feline controlling body in your state or country.
