Room for Rent and other rental scams
#254981 by charlesvic Sun Jun 07, 2015 11:51 am
Hi ! i've been looking for an apartment in Bruxelles, and i've received an offer from this "Glorianna" on appartager.be , we were then speaking through emails, this person now has an account " [email protected] " and calls herself " Solène Boisard "
I will write the list of things that were strange :

- very cheap for Bruxelles
- different user names between websites and emails
- speaking a lot about herself (that her dad passed away)
- wanting a lot of personal informations (identity theft maybe)
- hdtv in the guest room (of course...)
- no facebook profile nor linkedin
- ignored my proposal to become fb friends in my email

After all that i checked on google, copied the email and found that ... this person tried to scam people in Bruxelles, in Italy (Bologna, Firenze), in Netherlands, in Singapour, in Lyon, in Munich.. And always a different name, age but always the same messages, hobbies, story...

Well, hope i can help prevent people from being scamed. And i can never repeat that enough : visit or ask someone to visit the apartment you plan on renting !!!!!

I can confirm and say that Solene Boisard doesn't have any intentions to rent a room in Brussels and elsewhere. If you have a serious interest in renting his or her flat, please read first this:

Hi Solene,

Please don't give the roome to anyone else! I will be lost without your help! I just transferred the money.

I would be very glad to be your flatmate!

PS.: Please don't answer and please don't stalk me. I hope that you find an honest way to earn money.

PS2.: The police is informed.

Have a nice day!

Your best flatmate ever!
Patrick

I thought that we could meet for a coffee? Then I could also pay a part of the deposit in cash to you :-)

What do you think?

Hey Solene,

First I would like to say thank you for your long and friendly answer, I haven't expected it!

I am glad that your room is still free. As it is furnished (and I am happy about it), there is, for me at least, no need to buy more. I would love to see, if possible, some pictures of the house and the room. You seem to be humble person - this sets the ground for a good atmosphere.

As I already mentioned, I will work at the International Diabetes Foundation. I am really looking forward to it. I will not be able to come and have a look in person at the room, but a short talk on skype would be great and helpful :-) Then you and I would get a better picture of each other. What do you think? In the meanwhile you can have a look at my facebook account.

Enjoy the weekend!

Thank goodness that I found this forum. This same person "[email protected]" also in the USA doing rental scams.

It goes by the name of Katherine Lynes. The rental was $300-400 below market value. It even attached a photo.

Thanks for showing interest in my sublet apartment.

My name is Katherine and I am a travel nurse who's looking to rent out her apartment for 9 to 12 months during these period I will be working in a major medical centre in Seattle and am on the verge of moving ahead of my New rotation. I am also open to a short term sublease between 1 to 2 months. I intend to arrive in Seattle a week before i start work so as to have my accommodation situation in Seattle sorted ASAP as well as get myself familiar with the area.

My apartment is fully furnished with everything, from living room appliances and furniture w/pull-over sofa, to TV/cable DVD player, Wifi, center carpet. Bedroom consists wardrobes and drawers and new sheets as well. Also complete kitchen tools and equipment's too, such as a new refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave, cooking pots and pans, dishes and glasses, electric kettle, etc. You can consider moving in with your personal belongings only. Utilities covered are electric, water, gas, cable, telephone, Internet and garbage disposal.

There are no strict policies to having pets in the apartment, but I would prefer to have not more than 2 dogs/cats.

I will be interested in sealing something soon for 1 to 2/3 months or for the whole 9 months, if possible. There are no background checks or management processes required to secure the apartment, just the usual data form and a sublease agreement to sign and finalize. And since I have a long-term existing lease in the building, the rents (and deposit) will be paid to me directly on a monthly basis by check or bank. Finally, I'd like if you can share some information about yourself and have also attached my picture:)

I look forward to your email and any more questions you may have.

Best Regards,
Katherine Lynes
