That does NOT mean he is necessarily in the US as this is being used as a Proxy to hide his REAL location
.

Thank you, kurosaki - & welcome here.

While you are correct in that they do not show as a proxy, I have found the following:

Mention is made of Bandcon here:
http://www.scribd.com/doc/5244100/Atriv ... r-082808ac

This study was initiated to track and document scientifically the ongoing cyber criminal activity from within the IP space and servers controlled by the California-based Atrivo, and other associated entities...........This is an Open Source Security study set out to quantify and continuously track cyber crime using numerous methods of measurement. It focuses specifically on the notorious Atrivo, which has been seen by many over several years as a main conduit for financial scams, identity theft, spam and malware..........Atrivo, using a P.O. Box in Hong Kong for gaining and routing traffic via China

Further down ....

Bandcon – AS 26769 - One of Atrivo?s core providers of backbone Internet provision

There is also mention of Bandcon being used as a proxy here:

http://anti-scam.de/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB. ... 66347457/2

Again, there is mention of that I/P range here:

http://www.projecthoneypot.org/ip_209.107.217.20

It therefore can not be ruled out that that ISP's network is being used for scamming - whether as a proxy or just having another -possibly associated - ISP using their backbone.

Hi Alice,

Glad you realized it was a scam without losing anything. Can you post any email addresses they are contacting you from, and if their emails have any differences from the ones listed, could you post those too? Hi Richard...

By the way, how old are you Richard? Im 26yo. Are you local Richard?

Im fine with all what you have mentioned here it's just one thing, the security deposit which u have mentioned, $1500 is a bit a lot for me. Can we negotiate on it and make it as $1000, which will cover 1 month deposit and 1 month rental...?

Please do let me know, and im interested to move in to your place ASAP....

Thank you very much Richard.

Welcome, Laola :)

Yes - it is a scam!
+447024044809
is a "redirect to anywhere" phone number (usually to a mobile in West Africa)

Could you please post the headers from this email? That way, we have a good chance of determining it's source but more than likely, it's West Africa.

If you don't know how to find headers, please tell us which mail program you use (Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail . ..) & we can advise.

hi there...

I have also been scammed! I posted a "looking-for" ad on share-accommodation.sg and 2 people sent me emails with freaking good looking pictures of the apartments. first email is from [email protected] and the other from [email protected], suggesting units at 14 scotts road and kitchener road respectively. I was really interested in the unit that [email protected] offered, but i found him suspicious for several reasons:

1. 14 scotts road is actually Far East Plaza, a well-known shopping mall in Singapore. I thought it's strange that he refered to his unit as 14 Scotts Road and not state that it's on top of Far East Plaza. I mean, if he's not local, he wouldn't have known it's Far East Plaza or how famous it is...
2. He's supposed to be a masters student studying in the UK but he makes small errors in his emails, like not leaving a space after fullstops and commas and also irregular capitalizations of alphabets. That's fine if you say that it's internet lingo, but in the email he makes such significant effort to make an impression i thought that such errors are really out of line. So i concluded that he's actually quite lowly educated but took great pains to word the email.
3. I asked to view the unit and he sent me an email repeating what he has mentioned in the previous email. (is he retarded?)
4. The rent is ridiculously cheap. He obviously doesn't know much about the real estate market here.
5. He's asking for payment before MAILING me the keys. (hello?)
6. In the email he seemed reeeaaaallly concerned about letting me know more about him, as if he's concerned about having people to get along with, but he makes no effort whatsoever to find out about me, and really eager to rent out the unit.
7. There are also inconsistencies in the way he calls himself. From his email his name seems to be a female chinese name, "Tan Tong Nee", but in the email he calls himself Tan Ne, and repeatedly signed off as "Tan", which is a family name. Chinese people around 20-30 years old simply don't call themselves by their family names. So he's either not chinese and doesn't know very much about chinese people, or he's a weirdo.

yup and thus i trusted my female instincts and searched him up before making any deals, and struck bingo when i found the exact same emails posted on this forum from the same email address using different names...

Pass this on people!
