This person asks for a deposit payment via Western Union, MoneyGram, pre-paid credit card or bank transfer with a promise that you can have the keys to a property that does not belong to him.

Sounds safe. It's not!

At other times, he will ask for proof that you are able to pay the deposit and rent due to a string of time wasters.
This proof is in the form of a Western Union or MoneyGram payment to a lawyer,a friend or family member.

In either case, if payment is made and you give this person the details, they will collect the money.
You will not hear from them again.

All the details such as names, addresses, pictures etc. that the scammer uses in order to back up his story, are stolen from elsewhere.

If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Craigslist, Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.

I'm happy to inform you that the place is still available for rent and
you are the first person to contact me about it. I really need to know
how soon you want to move in and number of people. I'm a missionary
but I got transferred to North-Ireland (Saint Patrick's Cathedral
Saint Patrick's Close, Dublin 8, Ireland) to serve God and humanity. I
have no choice than to relocate and this is the reason why I want to
rent out the units to someone who is going to take care of the place
as if they own it. The apartment is available for short and long time
term lease is also accepted.

The rent includes all utilities and close to all amenities. I was
advised to rent out the place because there is no one leaving there
right now. The place is available for immediate move in.Rent £400 pcm

in the flat) (https://www.gov.uk/tenancy-deposit-protection/overview.

Thanks for the reply and the information provided. My lawyer and i
have both agreed to make a reservation for you so you don't need to be
worried as long as you have promised you will take proper care of my
flat just the way it is. However, my lawyer asked me not to collect
any money from you as long as you have not sign a contract neither
have i taken you round my flat so he decided to make a confirmation of
your financial ability before we proceed with the reservation.

Henceforth, my lawyer and i have decided to carry out a simple test
on financial ability to pay for my rent upfront prior viewing and
reservation. I would not ask you to send your bank statement nor send
money to my account. All you need to do is making at least 1 month
rent of 400 GBP and security deposit which is £400 which is refundable
after your 1st week stay in my flat, would be required from you to
transfer via western union. Make the transfer with your family member
or friend's name as a sender and your name as a receiver to an address
in London and you can as well use my flat address.

Once you have done this, scan the receipt to me and if you do not
have scanner, you may write out the details on the receipt as i will
send it to my lawyer to verify if it's truly genuine and available in
your custody, after verification, then we can proceed with the
reservation and you can easily pick up the money at the nearest
western union outlet when you arrive to at my flat and also, i will
refund the cost of transfer when we meet.

PLEASE NOTE:

DO NOT MAKE THE PAYMENT TO ME OR IN MY NAME SINCE YOU ARE YET
TO SIGN THE PAPERS AND I AM YET TO TAKE YOU ROUND MY FLAT, WHAT I NEED
IS JUST AN EVIDENCE THAT YOU HAVE THE CASH AVAILABLE IN WESTERN UNION
TO CONVINCE ME YOU CAN AFFORD TO PAY FOR THE APARTMENT AND YOUR
GENUITY. MY LAWYER WILL CALL WESTERN UNION TO CONFIRM THIS AND I WILL
GET BACK TO YOU SO YOU COULD PICK THE MONEY FOR YOURSELF WHEN YOU GET
TO MY FLAT AND I WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR THE VIEWING.

I look forward to reading from you soon.
