Do any of these ploys work by setting you up for a burglary while you're away, or do they all work merely by raking payments for accommodations at a phony account?

Hi Robert, this is an interesting question. I have never read or heard of a scammer working a scheme to rob a home. Scammer typically, though not exclusively are in a different country from where they are scamming. This is to make it more difficult to be caught. They are often in areas which have few laws regarding internet crime and it is easy to pass money through systems, even if it might involve a bribe or a cut of the money.

It is much easier for a scammer to sit in front of a computer all day pretending to be someone real, scam people out of cash, than to risk breaking into a home and stealing objects that need to be sold to obtain cash. Convincing people to send money is easier than finding homes to break into.

Scammers are lazy and disgusting criminals.
