I just knew about the conference-scam-thing couple days ago. I got this email around a month ago. Unfortunately, I already sent my information detail and paid for the hotel registration. I would like to know if this email is also a scam as you all have been talking about in this forum.

Dear Colleagues,

You are invited to join the Environmental Health Risk, Management and Technology (EHRMTWG 2012), Third Annual Environmental Health Risk, Management and Technology Conference. Health problems related to the environment and technology have become a major source of concern all over the world. The health of the population depends upon good quality environmental factors including air, water, soil, food and many others.

The aim of society is to establish measures that can eliminate or considerably reduce hazardous factors from the human environment to minimize the associated health risks. The ability to achieve these objectives is in great part dependent on the development of suitable experimental, modelling and interpretive techniques, which allow a balanced assessment of the risk involved as well as suggesting ways in which the situation can be improved.

The interaction between environmental health risk, management and technology is often complex and can involve a variety of social, occupational and lifestyle factors. This emphasises the importance of considering an interdisciplinary approach.

The Conference aims to provide a forum for the dissemination and exchange of information on the diverse aspects of the impact of environmental factors on health across different disciplines.

I am afraid this is a Scam, it would help if you posted the headers, but the phone number is a redirect one.

I would suggest that you have to put this down to experience, I doubt that there is any way that you will get your money back.

Please do not have any more contact with the scammers

If you wish you can email me at

How to get E-Mail Headers

The domain has a one-year registration with the organization "Private Registration". One-year registration is common in scam domains. It is also reasonable if the domain name has a year in it, but this doesn't. Also as Gateway mentioned, both phone numbers are redirects, so the lads could be anywhere. Please post the emails with headers included (lines beginning "Received" or "X-Original-IP" or the like), including any information about the hotel (which may not exist). This will probably tell us where they really are.

I wish this information was helpful enough for you to track their location. It is ok if I couldn't take my money back, but at least nobody would have to be another victim of the lads.

edit by dotti - removed excess info and victim's information to prevent it being picked up by more scammers and spammers

An IP address does not give an exact location, but it does give the area the scammers are operating in.
41.220.69.11 Asaba Nigeria

So in this case, the scammers are operating in Nigeria, not surprising for this type of scam, especially when looking at the mistakes in English.

The hotel website, like the conference website, is registered for only one year, and the admin contact is "myprivateregistration.com". The organization name looks like a real name, but the address is in Sunnyvale, California, which makes no sense if the hotel is in England. Add to that the request for Western Union and you get certain scam.

I'll pass both domains to the site killers at Eater. I know there are site killers here, but I'm more familiar with the process at Eater.

ETA: Nigel has been trying to kill the hotel, but didn't know about the conference; the conference website has already been replaced by a "space available" sign.

I've posted ehrmtwg.co.uk on the site killing forum. Could you post emails about or from ehrmtwg.co.uk?

makemytrip.com is registered for 17 years, so it looks legitimate. Is the form genuine?

http://www.makemytrip.com/legal/VisaForms/VAF1E.pdf IS GENUINE BUT SEE BELOW. The info was found by text search and is a site almost identical to the other two, with fake phone numbers to West Africa, Fake Hotel, stolen pictures the lot. It is as scam as the other two. Almost every page contains a fresh scam. Incorrect logo for a UK Gov department, Stolen Logos and everything. Fake email contact info for UKBA. Also posted to 419e. We need to shut this scammer down. Bear in mind websites includes copyright photos, and text stolen from various sites. At least that's a way forward. In my first report the Eco Garden Hotel was fast deleted because I referred the information to the owners of the real hotel where text and photos came from. They were grateful for doing that.
NOTE
http://www.makemytrip.com/legal/VisaForms/VAF1E.pdf is redundant. The form there is dated Nov 2008. You cannot use this form. The only way now is to submit an online form from the BA website to VSF GLOBAL. Full details are there.
