Recent assessments of the impact on the ongoing economic crisis increasingly highlight the deteriorating social and political fallout in the least developed countries and middle-income countries as well. Prospects for an early recovery have faded, forcing countries to prepare for a prolonged downturn in trade, investment and employment. The situation in the world’s developing countries – which contributed least to the crisis and are most severely affected – has led some economists to warn of “lost decades for development” which could have catastrophic consequences for rich and poor countries alike. “In the midst of the most serious economic downturn since the Great Depression, we now have the opportunity and the responsibility to search for solutions that take into account the interests of all nations, the rich and the poor, the large and the small”.

In this effort, it is vital to draw on “technical expertise and practical wisdom” from all over the world, and from countries at every stage of development, as well as from, academia, private sector organizations, and civil society. In addition to the impact of the crisis on development, this conference will also focus on discussions on reforming and strengthening the financial economic system and architecture.

The conference will consist of plenary sessions and three interactive roundtable exchanges among world leaders and representatives of the United Nations system, including the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

1) the impact of the crisis on employment, trade, investment and development, including the achievement of the internationally agreed development goals and the Millennium Development Goals;
2) actions and appropriate measures to mitigate the impact of the crisis on development;
3) the role of the United Nations and its MemberStates in the ongoing international discussions on reforming and strengthening the international financial and economic system and architecture;

Registration Modalities

Room Accommodation:
The United Nations in conjunction with the British Council for Arts and Tourism have selected a standard hotel to accommodate delegates because of its good facilities and cheaper accommodation rates. Participants are to take responsibility of their hotel and feeding expenses in London for the duration of the 4 days summit. A booking receipt from the Comfort Inn Buckingham Palace is required as a prerequisite for registration. Note that payment for room booking is important to obtain a receipt from the Comfort Inn Buckingham Palace .

For efficient coordination, all participating delegate must be accommodated at the Comfort Inn Hotels. Participants will receive their flight tickets and visa assistance, only when we receive completed registration form alongside with proof of their accommodation booking made at the Comfort Inn Buckingham Palace . Visa:
For easy issuance of an entry visa to UK by the British Embassy, our secretariate will issue a visa authorization letter through the UK Bureau of Visa Services. The visa authorization letter will accord participants special preference by the British embassy. British Embassies has been intimated for speedy issuance of visa to any of our summit participant. Visa would be obtained within Nine (5) working days. Note: Only participants that complied with submission of their duly completed registration form and proof of their accommodation reservation receipt would receive their visa authorization letter and flight ticket.

Flight Ticket:
Participants will collect their "free" UN sponsored round-trip flight ticket from any British Airways ticket office in their country or country of residence, As soon as participants flight ticket is booked and flight seat confirmed, ticket code would be sent to the participant for collection. Although London is served by many international flights, British Airways (BA) is the official carrier to airlift participants to London and back to their country of destination. In some countries where BA do not operate, affiliate BA airline would be booked. Note: Flight ticket would only be booked when participants have submitted their registration information and proof of accommodation reservation.
