Scams offering fake Au Pair positions
#297944 by shanghailover Tue Jun 14, 2016 8:03 am
Hello, everyone.
I need help form experts in this matter.
Recently I received an email from "mary lee" and the address was support @ aupair. com. It said I received a message from agency that you see in the title (of course without points, I hope to avoid the agency looking for themselves here), and they invite me to join them and add them on skype. There is also a website and an email address, so I checked the website and it looks really professional (jf aupair .com, if you want to check). There are actually photos of the girls at the airport with the banner of the agency, profiles of aupairs, etc. Moreover the pics look real, not like the HD ones that you find on google with the perfect angle or light. So, I sent them an email, asking them basic questions, like if there is a fee to pay, if there is pocket money, what about the visa, etc. Actually some of these questions were already answered in the website but they didn't have problem telling me again (some agencies just told me "check our website, it's all there").
So they said they don't get money from aupair but from the families who hire, they provide a cultural exchange visa (so not touristic with the - blank - promise to change it in hong kong), and the give 1000 rmb pocket money, which is basic in China.
So, everything looked normal and unsuspicious, but then I decided to check the phone numbers they have on their website: I searched the landline telephon number on google and it connected me to this http://jifaenterprise.sell.nccecojustice.org/contactus and this http://www.blazelead.com/Jifa-Enterprise/contactus/ a totally different type of society.
Looking for the mobile number (which should be Li Laoshi's, as specified near the number), first 3 results are actually other websites connected to the agency, but the fourth gives me this http://wa-com.com/jfaupair.com
The location of the agency is Guangzhou.

Can you please help me with this? Thank you so much.

ps: I found Mary Jifaaupair on facebook and has 80 friends.

I can tell you that the site registration has a few red flags. One-year registration not registered to the company name and they're using a free email address that has multiple domains attached to it. That doesn't prove a scam in and of itself, but with the other red flags you've mentioned, I would steer clear of it and listen to your gut. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Are you sure the emails are coming from aupair, com? What is the reply-to email address in the email?

I can find no legitimate listing for JIFA Agency anywhere except for the profile they set up at Aupair.com and there's spam all over twitter and facebook (some of it's already been removed). Would a legitimate company have to spam anyone?

First of all thank you!

Yes, the email came from aupair.com because that's a website agencies can subscribe as well.
Here it is
da: mary lee <[email protected]> from the owner of the demain - li mali
rispondi a: mary lee <[email protected]> answer to the owner of the demain
a: chinese doll <censored> to, that's my email address
data: 14 giugno 2016 04:44 date
oggetto: Mail from Agency Jifa Agency from China object
crittografia: Standard (TLS) Ulteriori informazioni crittography
: Importante principalmente perché è stato inviato direttamente a te. there is a yellow arrow that tells me the message is labeled as "important" because I am the only recipient

anyway, I don't understand, all of these agencies don't want any money, ever, not in advance nor later, they show their faces in a videocall on skype, what's in it for them? I mean, once a person has a legal visa and booked the flight for China, what could happen wrong?

edit: what do you mean by "spam"?

Thank you for the additional information. The email address [email protected] tells me all I need to know - no legitimate agency would be using free email addresses. By spam I mean that they are posting on people's facebook pages as comments and posting on people's twitter pages having nothing to do with Au pairs claiming to be an Au pair agency. No legitimate agency would do that.

There will always be eventual fees or worse. Only work with accredited Au pair agencies in your country that you can meet face to face, in person.
