Scams offering fake Au Pair positions
#47532 by djc66 Mon Feb 28, 2011 11:51 am
My daughter got this she is pretty sure it's a scam some obvious alarm bells. They got her name because she signed up with a on line babysittng service. Not sure how active this site is but hopefully some one responds soon. I'm definitely telling her not to email anymore but just looking for some confirmation.

- person misspells own name
- mixes up daughter names
- ask to deposit money in her account

read from bottom to top to get flow right

Thanks

Hello ,

Thank you for the details. I do like to state the job details to you
again so we wouldn't have any complications at the end. The start is
March 13th and the end date is April 11th and you can also be our
long-term caregiver because we are on the verge of relocating to AL.
Her nap time ranges between 4:30pm to 5.15pm and she has no allergies.
You will be paid for her snacks/food daily or at the end of each week
(which ever you prefer).

I was in AL about 6months ago and had a caregiver but she moved to
Canada with her husband about 3months ago. I will be glad if we can
set up an interview on 12th and discuss about the kid-fun activities I
will be interested in getting to know each other. We could meet at
Village pizza 2505 lee Road 430 if that works for you.

I have once booked a nanny and on arrival she told us she got another
job which was a big disappointment. For this reason, my conscience
arrived at paying (DEPOSITING) you for the first week of your service
before our arrival to secure the date so we can be absolutely sure of
having you care for the kids to enable things go perfectly without
disappointment.

Am planning on having the wheelchair seller delivers it to you
immediately after payment, so you can have it ready for Ashley on our
arrival since the seller lives in Maryland. Hope that isn't a problem?
I will be looking forward to your email to ensure we are on the same
page.

Thanks and have a blessed day.

Thank You.
Sabrina. Luiz

Yes - I'm sorry to say it's a scam.

There are some clear West African turns of phrase and the story sounds weird, particularly the idea of a child under two years old in a motorised wheelchair.

The usual tactic is to get a person to bank a counterfeit cheque, and then ask them to pay some portion of the funds elsewhere, which will end up back in their hands, so that all you've done is exchange a worthless fake into cash. These scammers know how to work it well and I suspect that the portion your daughter will be paying on will be the supposed payment for the wheelchair. They can get their hands on a Western Union payment and you'll see from how easily they send you a cheque, and yet insist on you making payment in a cash form. Once you know what's coming it's easier to spot. Why can't she (he) issue two cheques ? Easy - the scam doesn't work otherwise.

If you accept a cheque in payment for anything, never ever pass any part of the money on to anyone else - it's classic counterfeit cheque fraud.

I think this is likely to be the method of manipulating you into the scam. i suspect that you'll be sent a counterfeit cheque and then be expected to send a Western Union payment to the wheelchair seller, and the money will just go to the scammer.

They'll never outline the deal in full at the outset but, of course, they feel you'll be unable to refuse once you've agreed to work for a disabled child. That's how sick scammers are.

It's highly unlikely that a disabled child would be left to use a wheelchair for the first time in the company of a stranger, and never a motorised one.

I got almost the same email. They posted on my school's employment site and I contacted them. They even sent the same picture that somebody else posted. After reading this, however, I'm not going to respond anymore. Except with a 'screw you'. This was the post. Notice how her name changed...that is what made me suspicious..

Welcome KYLEEANN,
I'm glad you were not scammed.
Could you please post the scammer's email address? It will help other victims who do a Google search.
Thank you!

I just went through the same scam,

Except the name of the scammer was Jane Pedro and it was through my University, they have of course tightened the requirements now to post off campus jobs.

her email was [email protected]

However, scammers change their emails all the time and fast.

Wow, I got this same scam as well, I knew it didnt sound right. Without getting into to much detail, here were some of the specifics and email address. But I agree with the above comment, that these scammers probably change these email addresses all the time:

Thought sounded fishy.... searched everywhere for the name I was given then started searching the workplace then finally the position and found this. The new scam name is jaqueline Mccallah from Alabama is a counselor with the Alabama school for deaf and blind has a job opening here with everest college and has a daughter named Sarah who is partially wheelchair bound and lost the husband in an accident. The email is [email protected] sent me a picture of a little girl and her mom asked for mine. Horribly offensive to the hearing impaired. Sick that they are using assumed stolen photos of families. They found me on care4hire.com I have sent an email to them and deleted my account. Glad I figured it out before the got more than my name and email. Hope someone finds this helpful.

Hello

Thank you for replying to my job opening. I am Dr. Jaqueline Mccullah. I do hope to have a good reference with you at the end. I am relocating to Florida with my daughter who will be 4 years old in March and seeking a good caregiver for her for the first 5months. I am employing two caregivers for the first 5 months because I need a long-term caregiver and will love to know Sarah's comment on each of the babysitters, to decide who is going to be with her permanently. I am a Medical counselor at the Alabama State Schools for the Deaf and the Blind. I am starting a new appointment with the hearing impaired at Everest University and Healthcare Career Training Programs. I will be needing two babysitters for mornings (11am - 4pm) and evenings(4pm to 9pm), Mondays through Fridays respectively because I work long hours. The start date is February 20th and the end date is July 27th. Let me know the schedule that suits you and where you would like to care for her? We have the option of dropping her at your house or you coming for her at the hotel. Either ways works fine with me. I just want to make sure she is fine. I will be glad if we can set up an interview on 16th  February and discuss about the kid-fun activities, I will be interested in getting to know each other.

Kindly let me know if the dates and time works fine with you. I look forward to your email so as to proceed with further arrangement.

Thank You

Hello ,

It will be nice to see your picture too if you have one on your computer, so we can know who we are meeting. Am not sure if I added this to my first email but I deaf and dumb. Sarah is currently placed on a wheelchair due to an accident she had a few months ago from which we lost her father but she's not disable. She can walk a few distances though but the specialist advised she uses the chair for a while. I am planning on getting her a power wheelchair on our arrival. I will be glad if you can get back to me with your following information:

I will also be glad if you can get back to me to me with some references to know more about you.

Ps guys whatever number you put on care4hire shows on your profile look yourself up on their website when this person found me I was like how did she get my info? So I went into my profile and thought it was my error that I didn't hit for my number not to be shown. So i changed it and thought it had been fixed went back later and it was still showing and when I went to edit it showed that I had chose to not show my number so I finally just changed my number to 000000000 because a telephone number is required for your profile. I just deleted the whole thing today. I partially blame the care4hire system for giving out my information even though I specified against it. Check your profiles
