Same EXACT thing happened to me! I didn't make the exchange tho, but I do have a real person's name and bank account number, what do I do with that information?

Please post the email(s), along with the full headers (removing your personal information first), this "real person's" name ( highly unlikely it is the same name as the scammer that tried to scam you), and bank account details. That way they can be searched for by search engines and hopefully prevent another person from falling victim to this scam.

If you have a scammer's bank account number, PM it to a mod, along with information that shows that it's used in a scam. The mod will pass it on to someone who sends the info to the bank. If you post the bank account, report your post. Hopefully this will result in the bank account being shut down.

Wow, I am really glad I found this site!

A woman named "Molly Bridge" texted me and told me she found me on Care.com. She then asked me to email her my resume so I did. Here is the email she sent:

Hello,
Thanks for your response.I live in phoenix but i am moving to your area on 27th of July and i will need a Babysitter for my 6yrs old Son immediately between the hours of 8:30am to 1:30pm Monday`s through Friday`s.I hope you are available this hours but if you are not let me know your availability because i might still be needing your services. More importantly, My son is currently placed on a wheelchair due to an accident he had some weeks ago. he can walk a short distance though but the specialist advised he uses a wheelchair for a while. I am willing to pay $15/hour. I really need a honest and responsible care for him. This could be a temporary/permanent job. It depends on what your schedule looks like but i do like to be sure if you are available the first month. I am planning on getting him a powered wheelchair and have contacted a seller. I will let you know as soon as we finalize issues. I will like you to send me your complete name, address and cell phone number so i can include that to my payroll for the period. I also will like you to tell me a few things about yourself. Here is a little about me. I am a single mother, I am 39 and i am hard of hearing. I attended phoenix School for the Deaf where i achieved my highest qualification. I have my own business (Self Employed). I am never married. I attend the catholic. You will get to know more when we meet.Kindly include in your email your complete name, address and also your personal cell phone number so i can text you incase i need to pass an urgent information.
Thank You

At first I was very excited just to be getting a job but then I realized this was kind of fishy. So I tried to look her up on Facebook, but she doesn't exist. Nothing on google. Looked up her number and it said it was from California, not Phoenix like she had said. That's when I decided to look up "deaf mother wheelchair child" and found out it was a scam! I already gave her some of my info (address, cell #, full name) so I hope she does not use it! This makes me so mad and sick to my stomach, can't believe people would do such a thing! Posting this so that others can hopefully avoid a scam!

Here is the email and phone number it was sent from:

this just happened to me!! Fortunately I saw this site before I deposited the check. The fake name was Joanne Scott and her email is [email protected]. Phone number 1 was: 707-590-7517 and phone #2 was: 717-312-9220. My husband and I were fairly wary of this from the start so we've been cautious. We've tried finding her on fb and looking her phone number up. She delayed sending the check and said that her move date was delayed also. Finally when I got this last email from her, that's when I looked up babysitting scam mother with son in wheelchair. This last email I thought she sounded a bit pushy and less polite than she had been. Here it is:
Good Morning,

I will like to notify you that your check will be delivered

via USPS with the tracking number 9470101699320009470315
before 9am

today. Kindly make yourself available to receive the check on

delivery. Its coming from Casins specialties. in

the amount of 2775. You are to deposit the check into your

account as soon as you receive it so that the funds can be

processed for the wheelchair purchase.

My phone fell last night and i currently cant read messages

on it but you can text my other cell(7173129220) immediately

you receive and deposit the check into your account. The

wheelchair delivery will be processed after you have the

funds ready so ensure its deposited early this morning so

delivery can be made on Fri when the money

becomes
ready. I`m going to be busy this morning so keep me posted

via text.

We look forward to meeting you soon.

Joanne & Joe

[/b]

It just kind of bothered me when she was telling me to deposit the check. I really hope this person gets caught soon.

Same lady Joanne Scott emailed me back in July wanting a nanny, this is what she said,
"Thanks for your response to my AD. My name is Joanne. I recently moved from Arizona to California with my family but I`m moving to Idaho on 30th of July and I will need a nanny for my 6yr old son (Joe) immediately. Work time would be 9am to 4pm Saturdays and Sundays only but we might shift the Sunday time if maybe you'll need to go to Church. This is a long term position but its fine to start temporary. Some weekdays are also flexible if you are available but we may need to discuss that in person when i get to Idaho. I`m willing to pay $18/hour. I believe its a great pay and I`m paying that much because I want quality care for my son. The start date is Saturday is 9th of August but if you won't be able to start this date, let me know so I can look for someone to temporarily watch after Joe before your resumption." come to realize in a couple of emails later that she changes the date that she is moving, "I think it will be helpful to let you know I just lost my husband and a 4 month old baby in April to a car accident on our way out for picnic with the whole family on my late husband's birthday. Joe and I happen to be the only survival from the accident but he currently uses a wheelchair. I have had terrible times in the last few months and this is one of the reasons i have decided to move to Idaho because staying here brings back some sad memories. Kindly be honest if you have good knowledge in childcare because i want the best care for Joe. I can speak well but I`ve been hard of hearing and can only communicate via writing, reading lips or text messaging since the accident. I hope that isn`t a problem? I`m easy going and love to read. I can send you a picture of me and joe in my next email.
It will be nice to read more about you. I want a nanny who is willing to be a friend and family. Please note that i have a few applicants for this position but i made you our first choice so i wouldn't appreciate a waste of time. Make sure to include your complete name, address including zipcode and cell phone number in your response so i can check the map to read the distance between us and also to have your address on file. You may ask questions in case you have any. I await your quick response. Thank you for your email. Here is my own address 235 Ricks Ave, Rexburg, ID 83441. We are moving in on Tuesday, 5th of August. " She changed her move in date by a month, however I just realized this. I thought it was all pretty accurate and I was way excited till someone told me to do some digging and see if I could find anything. Thank you so much to this website. She also sent me pictures.

Read from the bottom up--
I wrote off some of the language mistakes as something due to the hearing impairment. What should I do now that this person has my address etc? Is there any chance of catching the people involved? I have to say the quality and patience has improved since the 2011 postings. The 'cash the check and pay the overage for the wheelchair' part didn't come for about ten days after the initial contact. They got my number from Care.com.

to Mary

Good Day Mary,

Thanks for your correspondence and I'm glad we're on the same page. I suggest we meet at a Starbucks not too far away to our house at 12.30pm on Friday, I hope it's a good for you too, there we would share more interest about ourselves. I have made arrangement to get Joe a powered wheelchair and i got a cheaper one in MO. I`m wondering if i could have the seller deliver it to you so you can help receive the wheelchair and pay the seller on delivery to ensure Joe have access to the chair immediately we arrive. The one he is currently using isn't ours so we're not moving with it. The wheelchair cost $2523, I will be sending you a check to cover your first weekend deposit payment and the cost of the wheelchair so you can take out your deposit and pay the cost of the wheelchair to the seller when she delivers it. After our meeting on Friday evening, We would go with you to pick it up. The check will be made in the amount of $2775. 252 will be for your deposit and the balance of 2523 will be paid to the wheelchair lady.

Please understand that the aim of having you purchase the wheelchair is to ensure that the wheelchair is available for Joe on arrival. The wheelchair isn't assembled. Its still packed in pieces so its not a big package at all and you do not need to assemble it unless you are willing to on the day we meet. Due to his condition, i wouldn't want any delay with the arrangement of the chair so you can let me know if everything is clear so i can go ahead with processing the payment.

We are happy to meet you soon and we hope for a great time together. I truly appreciate you and i`m hoping for the best from you.

Regards!

Yes, that all sounds like a good plan. Can we meet around 12:30 pm as my Friday is booked after 2:45 pm?

Also, I'm not sure if you mean you are making a check thru Care.com or just a check to me for the first weekend? I am not currently set up for pay thru Care.com but I could try to sign up if that is what you want. Might not go thru in time for the first weekend though. Let me know on that. If it is just a personal or bank check you can use the info above on the check that is fine.

I'm planning to disable the info on the Care.com site leaving only the tutoring up showing when I will have my next opening as I am booked full now. Please print off any info you like from my profile there in the next few days or so. I will wait until next weekend to take it down if I can.

At least in the beginning your house will probably be the better option. Joe will probably feel more comfortable with his familiar things around and I will need to get used to his care needs and routines. If the weather is nice I like long walks if he would enjoy that.

Feel free to send me any topics that interest Joe as I will need to Google things I'm not familiar with. Which means any video game that was made after Tetris and any cartoon on the current TV networks. I watch our sports teams but don't really follow any seriously but my grandson who is 7 yrs old follows the local soccer team and knows all the players names so if I need to read up for Joe I will. Just give me a few hints to get me thru the first meeting with him.

Looking forward to meeting you and thanks again.

Thank you for your email and Its nice to read about you. I received your info and here is my own address4609 Wallace Ave, Kansas City, MO. We are moving in on 11th of September. The sitting could be in our place but if you want Joe at your place, I wouldn't have any problem dropping him. You are free to do outdoors if you wish. I suggest that we meet on Friday 12th before you start working on Saturday 13th. That way we can get to know each other in person and share some interest about ourselves and the babysitting activities. As said in my previous email, the last couple of months hasn't been good and i wouldn't want to get stocked with my Son on arrival so i`m willing to make a deposit to you ahead of time to ensure a secure appointment to avoid disappointment. The total cost of your pay per weekend is $252($18/hour x 7hours/day = $126/day x 2days). I hope i can issue your first week deposit check with the below information.

(Deleted my info)
Kindly let me know if everything is clear so i may proceed. Also attached is a picture of me and Joe

Do have a great day and i await your quick response.

Thank you!

Audrey,

Thanks for getting back in touch. I’m sorry to hear about your recent loss. I hope the move does give you a chance to find some peace and focus on the future.

I would be happy to help you on the weekends with Joe’s care. I’m attaching a verification page to show that, as I stated on the Care.com website, I was a Licensed Practical Nurse for four years but no longer work in that field and have let the license expire. While nursing I worked in a Long-Term Care facility and had many patients who were chair or bed bound but they were mostly elderly and I have never done pediatric nursing. However the skills are the same regardless of age. I have worked in day-cares as well as raising my own family and feel very comfortable stating that I can help as long as you need me or until your circumstances change. I would like to know the diagnosis and prognosis for Joe’s physical condition. Do the doctor’s anticipate a full recovery, limited walking or continued use of the wheelchair? Would I need to assist with physical therapy, feeding etc?

Writing, texting and lip-reading are fine if that is what you are comfortable with. I’m thinking since you wrote hard of hearing and not deaf maybe you are mainstreamed and might not sign? And that is fine but in case you saw on Care.com that I do sign, I'll clarify to say it's enough for conversation with friends, but not much business or medical signing so we would still need to rely on paper for that anyway. I do know a few people in the deaf community through work and church if you had any interest there.

I would love a picture of the two of you. I look just like my picture on Care.com but maybe a few pounds lighter as I have been working on getting in better shape and going to the gym when I can. I am also easy going and I would have to say I am definitely a grandma type.

Let me know if you would like any further information.

Thanks,
Mary

Please send me details such as when the move is happening, school he will attend, grade interests etc. I primarily do reading tutoring but would consider this limited position. As a tutor my goal is to work myself out of my job (when the student achieves desired goals) so how long would you be considering this position? Until you are settled and can find another option or until the school year ends? Or is this a long term need due to your work requirements? Either one is fine for me as I can continue tutoring others Mon-Fri.

Thanks so much,
Mary

The writing looks more like that of a West African, as does the name (think "Goodluck Jonathan"). The scammer is more likely male and has an accent you would disrecognize as American, hence the claim to be hard of hearing.

Hello out there...I was taken aback when I received a text this morning from a woman stating: I am using her vernacular.

"My name is Nancy.I am hard hearing. We are moving to your area. I?need a babysitter for my son and an errand at your own convenience time, Which you will be highly pay for. Kindly make sure you send your resume/reference to my email.. [email protected] .from care dot com, But right now i can not text because i am at work but i will check my email at break time and get back tot you with the details"

Well, I was too taken aback to really THINK about it until a few hours later. I sent her an email saying:

To: [email protected]

Hello Ms. Miner: I'm somewhat confused? I am on care.com, but as an elderly caregiver? I don't believe I selected babysitting; however, having raised a son and daughter and now still raising another son and daughter, I understand the desire to ensure you find them safe and loving care. What kind of hours and days of care and pay are you looking at? It may be a consideration...just send me details when you have the time.

Sincerely,
Removed (BW)

I never heard from her so I sent a response to her text from my phone: "Hey Nancy, I never heard back from you. I sent an email to your Gmail. Just making sure you got it. Angela"

She responded,
"I reply you do you got it???"

I looked in my SPAM folder...low and behold, even though I sent it from my yahoo and she hit reply...the message got sent to SPAM!!! Thank God for that. Because THAT was what made me GOOGLE her name and babysitting. It was because of the WONDERFUL people who post on this site that I found all the similarities and could NOT BELIEVE the audacity...how far this scamming goes. WOW! Anyway,...this is the email she sent me and I of course am NOT responding. I am just putting here for anyone out there getting the same stupid message!!! She send me THIS:

From nancy miner

This could be a temporary/permanent job. It depends on what your schedule looks like. I am moving to a new house that i need to fix some interior and get furniture and have contacted the furniture company because i don't know if you will like to stay in my house or you want my son to stay with him that really depend on what you want. I will let you know as soon as we finalize issues. I will like you to send me your complete name, address and cell phone number so i can include that to my payroll for the period. I also will like you to tell me a few things about yourself. Here is a little about me. I am a single mother, I am 39 and i am hard of hearing. I have lived in Irving, Texas before. I attended Texas School for the Deaf because i am hard hearing , where i achieved my highest qualification. Just wanted to let everyone know this scam is still going on.

My daughter was contacted trhough care.com with the same story. She used the name Samantha (Faith). Email: [email protected]

Just a heads up. Wish Care.com could put a stop to this.

I am glad I went with my gut instinct and didn't send the rest of my info. Unfortunately, I already sent my resume and reference letters.
Name being used: Nancy Michelle
number:(702)519-0062
email:[email protected]
Just a heads up. So sad that people like this pray on our kindness. I felt bad for her and even though I have a job I wanted to help

I recieved an email from nancy michelle also, she found my number on care.com and texted me for my resume. I sent her my resume which included my full name and home address. Can she do anything with that information? I googled her email right after sending her my resume, which is hoe i came across this website as well as many others. i cant believe how many people she has tried or has done this too. she asked for my DOB and if i had criminal records. I havent responded and dont plan too but do i need to contact the police about this? is my name and home address enough information for her to do anything harmful? Im freaking out here. I deleted my care.com profile and secured my facebook.  :!:

Welcome to ScamWarners. Sadly, contacting the police will do nothing, because no crime has been committed. Well, it might motivate the police to send out a warning.

As stated above, the person who contacted you is not Nancy. The name the scammer is using is probably the name of a victim, it certainly is not the name of the scammer.

If you had only your name, address and other contact information, there isn't a lot a scammer can do. I wouldn't be surprised if you got contacted in the near future asking you to send money or pay a fee for some paperwork. Scammers are after MONEY. I would change the passwords to any accounts you listed on your resume.

I wish you well with your job search. Please read around the forum to see how you can keep safe on the internet. Thank you for posting your experience.

In reading above posts, this is a fake check scam. If, when you you receive a check from them, do NOT deposit the check or cash the check. It is a forgery and you would be liable for damages.

You CAN and should take the check and the envelope it comes in to your local police so they can possibly follow up on it.

Best to ignore any future contact from this person.
