Scams offering fake Au Pair positions
#49094 by dag1587 Sat Mar 19, 2011 3:38 pm
Well,
i've received a letter from Maureen Morgan from the US ([email protected]). It seemed a little strange that Maureen started her letter like this: "Hello Au pair/Nanny" without calling my name. I answered but then got the same thing: "Hello Our Future Au pair".
Besides i still haven't got any links to their account or website. They haven't answered some of my questions. They already agree to have me as an au-pair (after the 1-st response) without any additional questions. And it feels like they try "to make things go faster". English is not my native language but it seemed to me like there were some mistakes in their letter. They haven't mentioned any "travel agent" yet, but here's their second letter (which i've got after i answered them):

Hello Our Future Au pair,
Thanks for the swift response and also for all information provided. Everything sounds very fine with me .
Concerning the processing of your USA visa and work permit, I can recommend an agency whom am very sure they can handle the fast processing of all necessary documents required for you to live and work as part of our family in the USA . If you are interested in processing all your documents through this agency, I wouldn't mind providing you with the agency contact details.
Let me know what you decide as soon as possible.
We all looking forward to meeting you soon as part of our family .
I wait to read from you soon .
Kind Regards
Maureen

so if it's not hard for you could you please check this person?

Welcome to ScamWarners dag1587. It is very difficult to find absolute information from the little you have posted. There certainly are indicators that this is a scam. The hurry, hurry in the message. The ready offer to find a place to process a visa. The lack of calling you by your name.

You have good instincts on this. As far as I know a visa has to be handled in person and you have to have a passport. The scam will be getting you to send money to get the paperwork processed. The truth is, they do not intend to process the paperwork and will keep asking you for funds.

Your English is good as are your instincts. I will do a little more checking to see what I can find. It has all of the hallmarks of a scam.

Hello dag1587,

Yes, that is a scam; this is not the correct way to become an au pair in the USA. Please take a look at this webpage from the US Dept of State:

http://exchanges.state.gov/jexchanges/p ... upair.html

The scammer's fake agency would pretend to be able to obtain a visa or other documents for you, and require you to pay for this. This money would then be stolen from you.

Would you be willing to also post the first email you received from this scammer? An identical email will have been sent to many many people, and it will be so useful to be able to warn that this is a scam.

Dag1587,

How did you get contacted by this scammer?

It took only 9 minutes for your scammer to write back to me and say that the job is still open and I need to let him know what my decision is regarding the job.
