Scams offering fake Au Pair positions
#224282 by allikat101 Wed Oct 22, 2014 11:33 pm
Hello:
I was looking for a part time job when I came across this post on CL:
We are a relaxed, friendly family, with two children aged 5 nearly 3. We are looking for some help with school runs and babysitting. We need someone between 7am and 8am three mornings a week, and then between 3pm and 6pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and either Monday or Tuesday in addition. There would be opportunities for more hours babysitting, and we are likely to need some more help in the school holidays too.
We need someone who likes playing with children, but whose English is also good enough to help out with homework if needed. We would also like someone who is happy to cook a simple meal, and who will be able keep the house vaguely tidy! Having a driving licence would be wonderful, but is not essential.
The position could be ideal for someone who is currently studying, or has another part time position. In total, it could be around 15-20 hours a week. Ideally, we are looking for one person who can do all the hours, but we would also be interested to hear from you if you can only do a part of what we're looking for.
We are looking for someone to start from the 5th November. We look forward to hearing from you, and would be grateful if you could send a CV with a covering letter in the first instance.

I responded and they replied with:
Thanks so much for your interest in our nanny, My name is Barbara and my husband name is Dave, we are in the process of relocating from NY,NYC to your city and we need someone who can help us with some of the house hold chores, running some errands when necessary and in taking care of our 2kids, Emarisa 3yrs and David 5yrs as if they are yours. (Monday Wednesday and Friday). You would only be needed for few hours per week at your convenience and will like you to get back to me with your available hours although we are willing to pay $400 weekly and $40 per extra hour.

Provide the following information;

Full name :
Contact Address : (No P.O. Box)
Apt #:
city:
State:
Zip Code
Home & Cell numbers :

1) What hours will you prefer daily to allow us plan our schedule before arrival (7am - 8pm - 3pm - 6pm)?

2) How old are you?

3) Are you married?

4) Can you handle money if you are given an assignment to carry out for our family?

5) Tell me what your first language is (if not English)

6) Explain why you are a great Nanny/Housekeeper

Our expected arrival date is Nov 2nd but you will be paid beginning immediately and start work on Nov 5th, as i will have several small assignments for you to complete prior to our arrival, such as checking our new apartment for necessary supplies, purchasing what may be needed before our arrival etc. All we ask from you is honesty and sincerity. And am sure you will enjoy the time you will spend with our children. Please do get in touch on time so that we can start making arrangements with our travel agency while i await your swift response regards this employment offer and the requested details

I responded with my number and asked if they could call or text me to assure I'm not in a scam. They said they would text me. I am so unsure at the moment if this is a scam. Please help!

Please post the complete headers of the email.

He may have just run down a list of phone numbers. Notice "moving to your area" which means he's contacting people all over the place without knowing where they are. Again, the writing is West African and the name is typical of those made up by West Africans.

I'm pretty sure this person is trying to scam me.
They claim to be relocating from mexico to canada.
The person emailing me is named Jael Parson, 3yr old son named Joisten and the husband is named Silas.
I have tried googling/facebooking cannot find those names anywhere!
They claim to need a Nanny offering $20 and hour and now they want me to buy their son a 3DSXL and 3 games to go with it. they claim they can't send the money to me through e transfer or western union as they don't have a Canadian account yet and they have cancelled their credit cards due to relocation. As a western union agent I know you can't pay through credit, its a cash/debit only process. I believe this is a scam just wondering if anyone else has heard of it too. They also sent me a photo of their family, supposedly.

They want to send you a fraudulent check, and have you turn it into a gaming system for them. Next step would be to instruct you to send that gaming system to someone for some reason.

In the end, they get a free gaming system (either for themselves or to resell) and you get to deal with your bank when you are held liable for a fraudulent deposit.

Photos are simply stolen from the internet.

Please post any details (email addresses, etc. this scammer used.) The actual emails they sent (just copy/paste, remove your name) as they often reuse scripts on other targets.
