Hi everyone,

I am a trade contractor on the Gold Coast, QLD, Australia. A week ago I recieved an email that seemed legit but seemed a little strange to me as I am tech aware having worked in IT in the past. I searched around and found the email address of the guy is a known scammer, though not listed in your forums. Here is the original email:

*HELLO,*

*MY NAME IS HERB AND I WANT TO KNOW IF YOU CARRY OR CAN ORDER A STORAGE
SHED 6 X 10 FT WITH 7 FT WALL,TO BE PICKED UP FROM YOUR LOCATION.*
*
*
*LET ME KNOW THE COST PER SHED AND THE METHODS OF PAYMENT YOU ACCEPT SO WE
CAN PROCEED WITH AN ORDER.*

Initially I replied thinking this could be an old man wanting a garden shed. I ended up getting the following alleged information:

He's from Redfern, NSW, 2016. (Doubt it)
The products will be shipped out of the country (no suprise)
and he has a shipper to handle the goods (no suprise)
so he has asked me to quote only for the cost of the sheds to be shipped from my yard.

So a few questions:
1. This is a credit card overcharge scam, yes?
2. Do these guys actually have IRL people that come to your address and pick up the goods? Or do they try to just get you to order the goods as a third party and have them shipped directly from the [your] supplier? I am concerned with this as my legitimate business has an online prescence for advertising purposes and as such I have my address online for legitimate customer use. Should I be concerned about people coming to my address?
3. Should I try to push the scam to get info like the credit card details so I can report them as stolen?
4. Is there any agency within Australia I can report scammers like this to? I guess not as they are probably in China or somewhere not Australia.

I really hate scammers. They are a-holes.

Hi cabji,

Well done on identifying the email as a scam and welcome to Scam Warners. To answer your questions

1. It's probably an overpayment scam. The scammer will pay you either by stolen CC or bank transfer and ask you to forward on the overpayment to his 'shipper' by Western Union money transfer. He's unlikely to be interested in your product (what is a scammer going to do with a shed  )
2. It is highly unlikely that anyone will come to your address - the shipper does not exist. If you just drop them then they will email you for a while, but will give up eventually.
3. We don't recommend that you get involved with the scammers using your real life details, so as I said above, I would just drop them.
4. Not sure as I'm not in Aus, but it is unlikely to do any good as the scammer will be using fake details and will be in another country.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

This is one email that I have received from a "client" The header showed email origination's from unassigned IPs that are associated with scams (that is how I found this web site). The company claims to be in Singapore, the eropanes.com is registered in Sunnyvale, CA and the web site has been under construction for almost a year. They are most insistent on using a 3rd party credit card and picking up the item at our store. I think they are also trying to get me to run the credit card for an over amount as they have stated they will charge the client more. Too many red flags, so I have insisted payment by wire transfer and have heard nothing else from them.

good information in this web site.
