New here but in regards to this topic. I had a similar run in with this type of scam. I was selling a Macbook Pro and some guy text me and said (not in the exact words as I deleted that text), something about I got a friend I want to send it to, I will pay 100 bucks extra blah blah. do you accept paypal?

I think I scared him saying, I don't accept this or that and just cash only. -my2cents

This charhil 31 is contacting me now. Also texting my phone from number 17793240648, seems to be same scam as others posted. He's using name Stephanie. Any advice on how I should treat this situation?

Ignore any further attempts by the scammer to contact you. Do not respond, do not let on that you know it's a scam, just let him think you disappeared. Ignore any threats as well.

Do you have any emails you can post (with your personal information removed)? Post any information you have in order to warn others.

Hi all, this scam is still occurring on Craigslist. Unfortunately, I fell for it and gave them my email address and zip code. I then googled part of the conversation that struck me as odd and found this site. I have reported this to both PayPal and CL.

Posting the conversation thread here in case someone else receives the same language (which is how I found this post).

Scammer: Sounds good let me have your PayPal mail address for the payment transfer...

Me: Great - my paypal is [email protected]. When would you like to pick it up?

Scammer: As soon as money clears to your account.

Scammer: Ok. I will effect the payment to you Shortly. So you will receive a Confirmation Email from paypal after I must have made the transfer into your PayPal Account, in which you would be given instructions and procedures to follow in getting your funds credited to your Account fully. Thanks.

Scammer: Can you delete this off craiglist to assure me you won't sell to another buyer..

At this point, the Scammer went silent, I got suspicious, googled and found this site. I then reported the suspicious activity to PayPal and CL.

Moral of the story - if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I'm normally a pretty savvy online users and feel silly for getting scammed. I realize that it's easy to happen, especially if one is inclined to trust and unfortunately, it would seem that scammers take advantage of this. Thanks for this forum and everyone who posted here - such a help to others !!!
