Please beware of this website and other similar ones run by this individual.
This is the website: http://www.swipeauctions.com/prelogin_index.php

For more info: http://onlinescamwebsites.com/2010/09/s ... et-is-out/

You are lured in by the promise to bid on items such as i-pods, etc. with the chance of succesfully acquiring these items at low cost. You will see advetisements mentioning some well known company's that are supposedly vouching for this site.
You are then asked to provide registration details in order to be able to start bidding on the items and are asked later for your credit card information. At this point, your credit card is directly and immediately charge 159$. There's no prompt to ask you if you're sure or to tell you what's going to be provided for your money. If you were to go forward, you would see auctions with an almost impossible chance of winning, with most of the avaialble purchase items being chances to purchase more bids. In order to get your money back they want you to mail in a signed-off form, but you need to use up your bids first. To get out of this without mailing in my info, I threatened to involve the legal authorities including the FBI. I then had my charge reversed. You may want to dig deeper into the individual's websites that are documented on the internet in order to be aware.

An auction you pay to participate in ?

The design of the website is the type that immediately alerts you that you need to be careful.

In spite of the massive amount of self-promotion, there is an even greater amount of negative publicity surrounding it and, in my opinion, it won't survive long.

The individual running this site continues to build new similar sites once he gets too much attention upon himself. So, swipebids became swipeauctions and I'm sure something similar will pop up shortly. I cannot fathom how the person running these sites continues to operate...

I was encouraged to file a formal complaint by one organization, however it is now a bit hard to do so since my money was refunded (though I needed to "encourage" them to do so as per my previous post. And I was quite serious about filing complaints with those organizations).

At the moment, he's working very hard to create a positive image for himself and try to push off negative publicity that may come up in Google searches. You'll notice that the "news" items are not with what I would call larger news organizations.

However, the least I can do is warn all of you and to start using tools to identify these types of sites (I use Web of Trust) and many of the new anti-virus apps have similar functionality.

The more places these things are mentioned naios, the better.

I do notice that these people aren't shy at being litigious so it's wise to be cautious and, for that reason, I'll post a link to another site in th UK that has a very full account

I'm not pimping that site, just taking a cautious line.
