Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

I was looking to buy my son a PS3 for his birthday and found this one on sale:
http://www.pointecoupe.com/video-game-console.html
After ordering it via credit card (the site said allow 3-5 days for shipping for cc orders) I did not hear anything back for over a week. I tried emailing and the phone number with no reply. Today I sent this message:

"Hello.
I placed an order on August 5th for a Playstation 3 for my son's birthday. Since it has been over a week with no response to my emails or phone messages, I am going to assume you are now out of business. I was hoping to have heard something about my order by now. My son's birthday was on the 10th. If I do not hear from you in the next day or two, I will take my business elsewhere and order the Playstation 3 from someone else. The three to five working days mentioned on your website for credit card orders to ship has passed. Please let me know if you are still planning to ship this item. Otherwise, I will purchase it somewhere else.
(My Name)"

Shortly I received a reply from an Abdul Buhari as the email sender:

"Dear Melinda, I really do apologize for the delays and inconveniences caused our credit card processor is down at the moment and were supposed to have received an automation message regarding that.If you can make payment via Western Union Money transfer we can ship it out to you via fed ex overnight delivery for free also you can deduct the cost.of the transfer from the amount you want to send.Let me know if that is ok with you so I can send you payment instructions.Looking forward to your response and once again we apologize for any inconveniences caused. Warmest Regards, Mark"

The wire transfer of money alerted me that it is probably a scam. I emailed back saying I was not comfortable with that and suggested PayPal or C.O.D. So far I have not received a reply. The site website is here:
http://www.pointecoupe.com/index.html

I would appreciate if you could look into this and maybe close this site down. Als, do I need to worry about them having my credit card number? Nothing has been charged so far, but I was considering letting my cc company know to be on the alert.

Thanks very much.

Hello Cosmo339

Yes this is a scam. That site has only been around since the middle of June and expired in one year which is a very good sign it is a fake. Also if some ask you to send money via Western Union or Money Gram it's almost always a scam. Glad you got suspicious!

Did you get any emails from an address with the domain name in it? Please post the scammers emails and email address here along with the headers. Just take out your information. If your not sure how to get the headers go here http://www.ip-adress.com/faq/view_email_header/

They will eventualy sell or use your credit card info to conduct ilegal activity. Go ahead and cancel that credit card. I know it's a pain but trust me it will save you some aggravation later.

Justin

I do not know if you need all of this. I apologize if it is too much. I just received another email saying that they use PayPal and for me to send my PayPal information so they could send me a payment request. I am guessing they can still scam me with PayPal. I have never used it before. I cancelled my credit card as per your suggestion today. I appreciate your help. Their site is hosted by Yahoo E-Commerce.

Yes, they can and will try to scam you when they tell you they accept Paypal. The most common way is to simply take your money, not send anything, and stall for a long enough time that you can't reverse the transaction.
