Text message Craigslist scam

I've been trying to sell a netbook on Craigslist here in E. Tenn 865 area code when I received a couple of texts. I specified in my ad Cash Only. The first set I wasn't sure so then I started looking up Craigslist scams on the internet afterwards. I will post them here and the phone numbers they are from (if allowed) to warn others
First series of text from 405-418-6593 a number from Oklahoma

From: 4054186593 Is yourAcer Aspire Netbook still for sale?

To: 4054186593 Yes its still available

From: 4054186593 thanks is there away i can see more pics because i want it shipped to my girlfriend i will pay you $390 with the USPS fee

To: 4054186593 I will send you more pics this evening. What is your email addy?

From: 4054186593 okay do you have a paypal account?

No paypal. Too many scams. Figured you might be in town

Second series of text from 912-289-7442 a number from Brunswick, Georgia. I decided to have a little fun.

From: 9122897442 Hello, i just want to know if you still have this item for sale

To: 9122897442 Yes its still available

From: 9122897442 Alright, Am buying this for my fiance outta state and i will not be able to meet you but i will offer your$360 including shipping and I will also be paying you via Credit Card or Paypal cos i have a verified account with Paypal OK?

To: 9122897442 OK sounds good

From: 9122897442 Alright, Get back to me with your Paypal email so that I can proceed with the payment now while you make the shipment once you receive the confirmation of my payment but i will need your email ok?

To: 9122897442 You can use my cell number to send money through paypal. What address do i send this to?

From: 9122897442 I know but I will need your email Ok?

To: 9122897442 Why?

From: 9122897442 from my place here i will need your email to get that done, dont just know but thats how have been doing it for long.

To: 9122897442 Ok I will need you social security number, bank routing and account number to verify your identity through the fbi. Also I need your address in georgia

From: 9122897442 No i cant

To: 9122897442 Then I will not be able to send you bank of nigeria check of 400 USD in advance payment of your fraud payment to me lol

If they were able to receive return texts, you know the number is unlikely to be spoofed, so it is perfectly fine to post the numbers when you show the actual text chain the way you did. Often, the scammers use magic jack, VOIP, computer based numbers, or free online text services in order to fake a US location, and they will use the same number again and again--so having it posted can be of significant help to others.

Thanks Dotti. Hopefully more people will be aware of these scams. I searched google for these numbers before i posted but didn't find anything regarding scams related to them.

Thanks for posting the phone number. I'm in NM and they (whoever they may be) responded to my ad that I posted for selling a cell phone. First clue that something was up, they offered to pay me $400 when all I asked for in the ad was $200. Same exact phone number as the 405 number your post is about.

Almost got scammed the same way by this number *4073749720* on craigslist. They wanted me to ship my dell computer to their son in nigeria because he was on a missionary trip. I told them I wanted to speak to them on the phone but they couldn't because she was out of the country to visit her husband and she couldn't except calls. She said she'd pay an extra $100 for the shipping. So I google craiglist scam and found this thread. Thnx for posting this!

I posted a DSLR camera for sale on Craigslist and sure enough, gotten 3 different scam attempts.
Here are the numbers:

All of them used the same story. Out of town and gonna send me money via paypal. I asked to of them to talk to me on the phone and they made some lame excuses, like their job and area they're in does not allow them to make or receive phone calls. One of them got pushy for my email address, so I told him I will give it to him, if he calls me, because I want to make sure he's not a scammer. His response: "What do you mean by scammer?" lol
Another reason I thought it would be a scammer, before we even got to the paypal part, was that I got their first text between 12am and 2am... Normal people with some sense and courtesy probably wouldn't text someone at that time.
Anyway, please note those numbers and beware!!
