Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

Under no circumstance and for any reason should you EVER make any payment before viewing and inspecting ANY vehicle you intend to buy.

The scammer has no vehicle and he can't scam you if you insist on viewing the vehicle first.

Paying in to a bank account provides no protection whatsoever. If you've paid a 'money mule' no one will refund your stolen money.

It's unlikely that UK security services use hotmail accounts and it's unwise (idiotic and childish) to post scam adverts impersonating them.

Through one hacked dealer account the fraudster is seeking to make his fraudulent adverts come top of any search for any make of vehicle on the site. It is only because he is so successful in doing this that I can pick them up so easily. Yesterday out of the top listings for some makes, at least 6 out of 10 were scam adverts.

I just received a mail today from a Kate Carter expressing in badly written English that 'she' was interested in the car but had seen the same car for half the price on Autotrader.

A link was provided to view this car and this led to a site which looked like Autotrader and asked for my password. However I noticed that the URL was PreviewADD and the page didn't ask if I was a returning customer.

Any details you can supply by pm to me, or a forum admin, would be useful as this sounds as if what has happened to you might give some insight as to how these hackers are getting access to dealer accounts.

It would be extremely useful to see what one of their phishing sites looked like and there are some very experienced 'site killers' here who would have it taken down. I hasten to add that they do it quite legally and using completely legitimate means and contacts. They know who to contact and what information to pass on.

I'm guessing, but from what I interpret you're saying, the scammer is is copying dealer photos, posting them for sale at ridiculous prices on other dealer pages, and then alerting the dealer whose cars are involved and giving them a phishing link.

That's very cute if that's the way they're operating. The harm this is doing to both buyers and sellers is immense, and it's a serious crime, so any information would be valuable, but please pass it by pm.

It's difficult to believe that the hackers come from this planet let alone the UK, but I won't mention why. A few more exclamation marks would help.
