This is an example of a typical Payment Representative scam. The scammer will soon reveal to the victim that their duties will involve processing payments from "clients/customers". These payments will be sent to the victim, either by fake checks or fraudulent bank transfers. The scammer will offer the "employee" a commission, likely 7% or 10%. If the victim forwards the balance of the funds according to the scammers' direction, they will soon find that the original client payment is fraudulent; leaving them owing the full amount to their bank. Not only can victims be left owing money as a result of this scam. They may also be facing legal action from their bank.
