I just got my eviction notice today (1/30/14). Here's the note I got:

Eviction notice,

Hereby you are notified that you have to move to another
location from the currently occupied premises within
the next three weeks.

Please find the lawsuit details attached to this letter.

If you do not move within this period of time,
we will have no other alternative than to have you
physically removed from the property per order of the Judge.

If we can be of any assistance to you during your relocation,
please feel free to contact us any time.

Court representative,
Lena Tailor

Of course below the email is an attachment title: Lawsuit_Details _Attache_ID92-696.zip (112.2 KB). I'm thinking it wouldn't be extremely wise to open that attachment. Anyways, I'll let ya'll know if I'm evicted in 3 weeks, although I'm not holding my breath. Haha.

This scam is especially bad since it targets vulnerable seniors. It also contains files to be opened which may contain viruses. Here is the text of one I received last week - it had the email address [email protected] which may be an attempt to discredit Obama's law firm:

"Eviction notice,

Thanks for posting this.

It is not a scam, just someone trying to distribute viruses or malware.

More details can be found here viewtopic.php?f=2&t=81520 and a variant here viewtopic.php?f=43&t=80353.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

Got another one today. This from a different address.

You may be technically right about these not being a scam, but when you consider that the elderly are really vulnerable, something like these emails can have terrible effect on their live, if they do not know better. Then when they try to open the attachments and their computers are hacked... woe is me, they are really slammed. And who is to say that the attachments won't somehow lead to a scam?

Thanks for everything,
#189797 by scam-buster Mon Feb 03, 2014 2:19 pm
I have gotten 2 such notices within the past week very similar to yours. I think they are targeting seniors who are easily upset by such things... and do not have the understanding as to what is an appropriate email and what is not. The mere presence of an attachment is a red flag to me unless I know the sender and am expecting such an email with an attachment.

Thanks for posting and you can see my post elsewhere.

I have also got an email in my "junk email" section today. But instead of being from a court, it's from a woman at a real estate agency. I knew it was a scam right away. Too many typo's... Came with 2 attachments, but did NOT open them, of course. I'm worried about the naïve people who would spot this email and open the attachments... The email says the following:

From: Urgent notice of eviction ([email protected])

Urgent notice of eviction,

We have to inform you about the eviction proceedings against
you and the decision of the bank to foreclose on your property.
As a trespasser you need to move out until 26 March 2014
and leave the property empty of your belongings and any trash.
Please contact our office without delay to make arrangements for a move out.
If you do not do this, you could be simply locked out of your home.

Detailed bank statement as well as our contact information
can be found in the attachment to this notice.

Real estate agency,
Ava Tailor

I just got an eviction notice, but It's most definitely a scam I think, it looks just like one of those scam receipts from paypal/apple. It sounds threatening but I have no idea why its been sent to me as I havent even registered with this company and have nothing to do with them. Is this scam dealt with here? Just asking because it doesnt look like like a typical scam, but somehow i dont think i was sent this by mistake either...

It is spam with malware - there will be a .zip file attached.

More details here viewtopic.php?f=43&t=80353 of a previous incarnation (the eviction notice might be mentioned somewhere in there as well).

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.
