Welcome mother4life,

Sending your information to this scammer is not going to cause you any harm. The scammer really doesn't care who you are or where you live--all he cares about is getting money from you. Just drop all contact with "her" and ignore any future attempts to contact you. It is possible the scammer will send you a counterfeit check immediately, but if that happens, just don't attempt to cash it, no matter how much the scammer harasses you, and you'll be fine.

You may see an increase in scams to your inbox/phone/etc. if the scammer tries again or shares your information, but other than that, nothing should happen.

My room mate JUST Went through this.
Same message and everything.
She Did in fact cash the check from her "Insurance company" for 2,775.00
$375. Was for her first weeks pay. And the rest was for the "wheel chair"
The wheel chair Never came to the house. She did Not meet her at the place to "meet" and discuss things.
The child Never came to the house as planned. And never gave her phone number.
No contact from her since.
Although she did spend the money she gave her for her pay. We suspect now that it is fraud. And, the bank will investigate further if it was.

Welcome Rigbypeep,

We suspect now that it is fraud. And, the bank will investigate further if it was.

Unfortunately, there is no "if" about it. It IS fraud--this is a textbook case. Sooner or later it will be discovered that the check was fraudulent, written on a nonexistent account or on a real person or company's hacked or phished account.

It sounds like your roommate has already contacted the bank--if she hasn't, it is imperative that she do so now. She also needs to make sure she keeps all of the emails from the scammers, and she should consider filing a police report.

Unfortunately, depending on where the money came from, the bank has the right to hold her accountable for the entire amount of the check, including the money she sent--so she could find herself facing a debt of $2775 plus any fines or fees.

The names the scammer used with her are fake. Any photos sent are not of the scammer, but are stolen off the internet (most likely from a social networking page like facebook.) The recipient of the Western Union payment (I am assuming she sent it, since she was expecting a wheelchair to arrive) is unlikely to be the actual scammer- more likely he/she is a mule who may also have no clue to the scammer's real identity--and he or she has already forwarded that money further. What this means is that chances of recovering the money she sent are extremely slim, leaving her potentially holding the bag for the whole amount.

Do not feel bad as these scammers take many both smart and naive. Just learn from the mistake.

If you sent money by Western Union get your MTCN and see if it is still active here.........
https://wumt.westernunion.com/asp/order ... try=global

If it is still active and not collected GO TO YOUR NEAREST WESTERN UNION OFFICE AND CANCEL THE TRANSFER NOW!!!! If it is not active you will go through hell trying to get any of the money back.

It would seem that our "friend" has a new name (Jennifer Smith) and is trying now to make her debut in Utah. Posted on the Utah State University job site on June 11, 2012 was the EXACT same ad that all of you have been mentioning and I have received the following emails from her:

Hello,
Thank you for replying to my job opening. I am (Mrs. Jennifer Smith). I do hope to have a good reference with you at the end. I am relocating to (Utah) with my daughter who will be 4 years old in July and seeking a good caregiverfor her for the first a months. I am employing two caregivers for the first amonths because I need a long-term caregiver and will love to know Sarah'scomment on each of the babysitters, to decide who is going to be with herpermanently. I am a Medical counselor at the Alabama State Schools for the Deafand the Blind. I am starting a new appointment with the hearing impaired at Some Colleges in Utah. I will be needing two babysitters for mornings (11am - 4pm) and evenings (4pm to 9pm), Mondays through Fridays respectively because I work long hours. The start date is (2nd ofJuly and the end date is 30th of July). Let me know the schedulethat suits you and where you would like to care for her? We have the option of dropping her at your house or you coming for her at the hotel. Either ways works fine with me. I just want to make sure she is fine. I will be glad if we can set up an interview on (1st of July) and discuss about the kid-fun activities, I will be interested in getting to know each other. Kindly let me know if the dates and time works fine with you. I look forward to your email so as to proceed with further arrangement.

Thank You

I responded back that the times worked for me and then received this from her:

Hello ,
Thank you for your response. The schedule is alright and I am willing to pay $15 per hour. We are looking forward to lodging in a hotel that's close to you to ease your movement beforewe secure a comfortable accommodation. Am not sure if I added this to my firstemail that am impaired. Sarah is currently placed on a wheelchair due to an accident she had a few months ago fromwhich we lost her father but she's not disable. She can walk a few distances though but the specialist advised she uses the chair for a while. I am planning on getting her a power wheelchair on our arrival. I will be glad if you can get back to me with your following information:
NAME:

ADDRESS:

CITY:

ZIP CODE:

MOBILE #: (If I need to passurgent information.)

Thank You

Email seem familiar to anyone? Hmmm.... Good thing she's not that smart. I had actually already sent her that information in a resume but apparently she's not all that clever and didn't realize that. Let's be honest, if she was really a medical counselor you think she'd be able to form a sentence correctly. I reported her to the job site and campus police, so we'll see what happens. I hope no one in my area falls for this though...

The writing has some oddities that are typical of African scammers. Could you post the headers so that we can see where the email is coming from, and so that others can search for the address and find this post?

this is what she had sent to me Via email. she had firs wrote me from a very weird sight , it was going to my phone as an email. and then she wrote through her email... she had sent me a picture of both herself and her daughter although it wont let me attach it to this she was a blonde as well as her daughter with blue eyes.. Now im creeped out to know this happen to someone else as well...

Thank you for the details and I do like to affirm the schedule of the job details to you so we wouldn't have any complications at the end. The start date will now be October. 15th and the end date is Feb. 21st . Sarah love toys, dancing, paintings and she has no allergies. You will be paid for her snacks/food daily or at the end of each week (which ever you prefer).

I was in Michigan about 6months ago and had a caregiver along 635 w marygold ave. but she moved to Canada with her husband about 3months ago. I will be glad if we can set up an interview on 13th and talk about the kid-fun activities I will be interested in getting to know each other. We could lodge and meet at Econo Lodge in Madison Heights if that works for you.

I have once booked a nanny and on arrival she told us she got another job which was a big disappointment. For this reason, my conscience arrived at paying (DEPOSITING) you for the first week of your service before our arrival to secure the date so we can be absolutely sure of having you care for the kid to enable things go perfectly without disappointment.

Am planning on having the wheelchair seller delivers it to you, so you can have it ready for Sarah on our arrival since the seller lives in Michigan. Hope that isn't a problem? I will be looking forward to your email to ensure we are on the same page.

Thanks and have a blessed day.

I had my questions about this and even told my boyfriend that I was Leary about it. But I do over think things so that is what they all thought I was doing. I got the check sent to me and my mother signed for it and opened it and looked at it and it didn't look right. So she called the number of who it was sent from, because it came as fed ex so the name and number were on the package, the number was a storage unit. They lady said that she gets hundreds of calls about this and to burn the check because it is a scam and that the FBI is involved. The scary part is that they have my name, my address, and a picture of me. I emailed the "lady" and said "the check was phony, thank you for wasting my time" they emailed me back and said " how do you mean?" I didn't email back and I don't plan on it. My mom called the FBI since the "lady" has a picture and my name and address. The FBI said that its going to be easy to send me more scams since my information is out there but that they won't come after me since they are doing hundreds of these around the world. The huge thing that tipped me off was she called "her daughter" by the wrong name. Here is the name and email address that she used with me: CHRISTINA LAWRENCE

Ok so I'm the latest victim of this sick scam! How pathetic. They went by Elizabeth Palma. I gave them my info so will be getting a check soon. I'm just going to turn it over to the police and block their email address. I really needed the work too. Thankful I googled the address and they were stupid enough to keep using it because it brought me here. Just not looking forward to the future scams now that I gave my info. Did anyone else get more scams, junk email?? There are some sad people put there. Didn't help my thoughts on humanity I can say that!!
