Hi Everyone,

I also had the same experience this month. I was so embarrassed since I'm a professional. I work as a system administrator and I almost fell for them. Four military men added me on a social networking site called smoothie. This site is specific to Blackberry users, that way you can chat 24/7. They are namely:

Guy1: Douglas Starling, he is based in Afghanistan. He told me he is a widow and I look like his late wife.
Guy2: David Bowers ([email protected]). He told me he is now based in Iraq, widowed and had a 3 year old kid Lucas.
Guy3: Harry Donald Lingo ([email protected]). He is also based in Afghanistan, widowed and had an 8 year old kid Whitney.
Guy4: Frank Chris Chamberlan ([email protected]). He is based in Nigeria. Single been cheated by a girl recently.

So when I met them, I felt like a military magnet/hearthrob that time. I was even agonizing for 3weeks on whom to chose as my partner. Hahaha. Douglas and David event told me they know each other! They were begging me to choose them and delete the other guy. Nice story even felt bad about being a "cheater" and having too many military boyfriends. Lol.

After a few weeks of chatting, I know there's something wrong:
1) They were chatting almost 24/7, I know military men that are in camp do not have the time to sit around all day and chat with their online girlfriends.
2) Really bad English. Wow! As an asian, I do not have the perfect grammar however these military men are the worst American chatters I have met.
3) Two of them actually send me some voice notes and the accent are really different. I work in a multinational company and I know that these men's accent are totally NOT american.
4) Harry and Donald are asking me money for the surgery of their kids. They told me that they do not have access to their bank accounts…etc. I really felt bad about the situation but of course I did not give them any money. They couldn't even give me the hospital name.
5) They can't have video chats because of the situation. I have seen some shows on the history channel and I know that the government will allow them to skype with their loved ones.
6) Of course the leave form. Wow! One guy gave me the form it's pretty impressive since you can see the american seal, signature and all that jazz. But looking closely, you will see that there are wrong spellings. The forms have a lot of designs that I know government forms are very simple. I asked to whom should I send the money and they said thru western union. The fees are very cheap compared to the actual airfares nowadays. When I asked each guy how much they were telling me different amounts. So that's when I decided to do my research and found this website.
I deleted all of them on my BBM but some did add me on yahoo messenger. I was shocked that some people would actually do this to innocent women who are just trying to find love. I guess it's also an eye opener that we should be careful when talking to people we don't know. Most especially if they are saying that they love you at the first day. It did hurt. But at the end of the day, I'm glad that I was able to come across this website.

Hopefully our story will help other innocent girls out there. Don’t worry girls, we will find our partner in time. But having this experience made me realizes it's better to date people that we actually know and exist. Today I bid good bye to online dating. :P

Regards,
Tori

One benefit of being in the US army brainfreeze is the medical cover they provide for the soldier and their immediate family. It would be stupid for them to pay when they have access to the best medical facilities in the world without cost and, if the medical problem is serious, they will be flown home by the military, again without cost.

Scammers have to dream up problems that require a victim to pay them money, but without exception none of these problems exist. Another silly claim is that they don't have access to their bank account when it's obvious that if they can visit a chat site, they can access online banking.

Hi Everyone,

I have been a victum of my second scam involving sending money to someone that is not real. Both times they involved names and places in Nigeria. This is the first time, it has involved Military names. So After reading similar posts from members who were affected by these scams. I thought I'd add my experience.

Lucky for me, this time around, I didn't send any money. Here is a copy of the two emails I received including all header information:

I have recently gotten this as well. A Sgt. Dave Johnson. What kills me are the number of pictures this person has of this soldier. The email address used was [email protected]
What the guy didn't seem to realize is that I'm a military brat (even though I told him this) and I know that you don't have to pay to process leave, and no one can request leave except the soldier through the commander.

The email address he gave me to email the leave request on his behalf was [email protected]

For those that may come across this, the DOD will never use a .com. Also, they will never request money to process leave, nor will they accept a leave request on behalf of a soldier.

I got lucky, and just have my pride hurt a little. I hope you don't lose anything to these guys.

I met a gentlemen claiming to be Kris waterfield on the dating site Skout. He seemed like a really nice guy untilhe as ked me to send an email requesting a leave permit. We haven't been talking to each other that long. This is thein formation he gave me: Sergeant Kris waterfield, deployed location :Egypt, military code 3245fa63us. He said to send an email to [email protected]. The USA. Com address seemed a little fishy to me. Then he said there would be a fee I would have to pay, but he would reimburse me once he got off the plane. We were talking via text, the number he used is 214-612-2397. Came with military wireless network at the bottom of everytext , which made it seem legit. I decided to look up the email address before I sent anything. I would appreciate any and all help with this. Is he really to good to be true?
#181652 by AlanJones Wed Nov 20, 2013 9:59 am
Hello Pegbundy72 and welcom to scamwarners.

I can confirm that the person you have been communicating with and calling himself Kris Waterfield is not a real member of the US armed forces - he is a scammer probably located in Werst Africa or the Far East.

The email address [email protected] is a free email address that can be set up by anyone - if they were legitimate, they would be using a .mil address.

Finally, army leave does not work by someone that the soldier has never met paying a fee for the leave to be approved - it is all handled internally by the armed forces.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

Hi Pegbundy72, so glad you saw the thread here and asked for help. As they say, if it sounds too good to be true...
Scammers are the best at making everything sound legit because first they pull you in and make you feel terrific and cared for. So how can you even think to not trust someone like that? As you can see from this thread, they are pros at this. It's their job. And all I know is I find these guys posing as soldiers to be the lowest of the low. You have sympathy for them being in harm's way, would of course want to help and that's where they think they have what they need to pull you in.
Please make sure you stop contact with this person. He will come back and plead and say he's not a scammer but of course he is. Smart you for coming here first and checking it out.

About this week ago, this guy by the name of Andy Sutton Walker sent me a Facebook friend request and a Yahoo Messenger request and I accepted. This guy was too good to be true. He told me his parents died and his wife died in a car accident. He was deployed in Afghanistan. He soon started professing his love and asked to marry me. He then ask me to send an email to [email protected] to request for emergency leave for the holidays. This is the response I received:

Dear Madam,
Consequent of your request for Emergency Leave for Sgt. Andy Sutton Walker to come home from the war Zone, you will have to obtain a late Leave form worth the sum of $220usd from the Administrative Department of Military Base at Kabul, Afghanistan.
Make the payment to our military agent's account below and get back to us with your full details including your address and photocopy of your driver's license so as to start processing his leave form for you to fill and submit back to us with the details of REFUNDABLE FEE Leave payment in other to add him to a list of troops leaving for Xmas and New Year.

Hey, new here.

https://badoo.com/0348738135/ and uses the nickname Icare
Scott Chapman (British, from London)
Says he is in Lashkar Gah Afghanistan.

Just Skype talking, no email. Got a phone call today from him, static and bad connection. Not so British accent (I've lived there for years, I know the accents). Sounded suspiciously like a black person btw.
I asked about the accent, he said his mum is from Malta and he picked up the accent from her and looks from dad. I don't know if Maltese people are non-white but the dude in the pics look like very white to me and his age 37 seems a bit old for the pics he has on Badoo.com (I saved them on my computer).
His mum and dad were killed in an accident and he is the only child. I asked when he is able to go to his friends next time - said here's no friends (????). [14:30:33] Scott Chapman: Well i lost my parents both in a gasline motor accident (WTF is that anyway???)

Snippet(s) of the Skype convos:

[14:50:09] xxxxx: where in britain are you from because I didn't regognise your accent?
[14:50:46] Scott Chapman: OK... i was born in Bradford.. but my mother is from Malta and my dad is from the UK

[21:31:40] xxxxx: about the insecurity, I know it is in my head because I've been hurt too many times and there's a lot of talk about some weird Nigerian scammers who say that they need money for the permit
[22:04:10] Scott Chapman: DO not worry
[22:05:55] Scott Chapman: i will go now
[22:06:08] xxxx: ok but I need the info about the permit asap
[22:06:19] Scott Chapman: I SAID NO
[22:06:25] xxxx: what?
[22:06:59] xxxx: what's going on

---------
Then he deleted me from Skype contacts and won't take me back. I sent him a request at Badoo that "what the hell is going on"
Then I started digging up the net reverse img search didn't bring up anything. And found this site.

I also found this site: http://www.cid.army.mil/romance_scam.html but I don't know how does it apply for (fake?) British soldiers.

-------

Please advice. The love of my life broke up with me just over a month ago and I am sensitive still, and I don't need this kind of crap in my life now.

You have had a lucky escape - there is no doubt he was a scammer.

Some of the wording he used is not what a natural English speaker would say - it has definite African hints to it.

Also the permit rubbish is totally untrue - no military (either British or American) requires permits from random people on the internet for a soldier to get leave - it is all dealt with internally within the unit.

Please can you post up details of his Skype account, so that others can find it.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

Here is the story I wrote on this thread but with more info and pics.

viewtopic.php?f=13&t=78498

Believe me, if he had asked any money, I would not have sent him anything. I've been reading other scammer sites too much to be wiser than that. I pressured him on purpose about the permit, because I already knew that is was a pile of poo.

Also, the early "darling" and "I feel a connection with you" etc. made me think about this a lot and I pasted some random military info on Skype about the base he was supposed to be and it's moving to another base - he didn't know anything about this either.

I reported him on Badoo and his account was fast deleted.
