These scammers have used spoofed numbers.

If you are still in doubt. Please contact an attorney. You can direct him or her to this thread.

You surely did not read page one, other post or reply to my earlier link to you.

I did in fact read them all, being on mobile i did not know how to quote though.

Yes it was the same story, just a different order used I guess, Investigator contacted first instead of the "father" etc.

basically got a call didnt realize that sending a number to spam wasnt the same as blocking the calls, blocked them got the voicemail, they called about 6 more times havent heard anything since. I'm still changing my number tomorrow either way.

It just didnt dawn on me in a panic at the time, that if the police had proof of something like this they wouldnt let the father "talk it out" they would have already beat my door down 2 days before im certain.

And as you are certain they are using spoofed numbers(im sure you have your ways i wont ask about) i will take your word for it and put my mind to rest at any rate. I do apologize for seeming like I was ignoring this is a first time for me with any kind of scam and i was incredibly freaked out during my posts.

Blackmail Scams/Sextortion Scams.

There are various types of these scams. I will explain a few.

Many Social Media Sites such as Skype, Kik, Facebook, Pof, Craigslist, okcupid. Badoo and Chatroulette are a home for Scammers and Thieves to use to scam by using threats of fear and/or criminal charges.

This scam involves 'grooming' a potential victim into sending compromising photographs/video to the scammer - In some scams the scammer/thief will, initially, send compromising pictures which he/she will say are of him/her -- these will be stolen from elsewhere

Types of blackmail/sextortion scams:

Threatening to send your images to your Facebook friends and family.

Scammer will meet you on a social media site and ask to exchange compromising images. He may have asked prior or will ask later to be added to your Facebook account.

Now the scam begins. He will tell you to send money via Moneygram, Western Union, Amazon gift card, Prepaid scratch off card or any other untraceable method to him.

In some situations the scammer will tell you to sign up to a cam site or they will post your pictures/video. This is also a scam. It may lead into credit card phishing.

He will tell you if you do not comply he will send the photo’s to your Facebook friends list.

Another version of this scam is Under Age girls/boys.

The scammer will meet you again on a social media site. He/she will tell you they are over the age of 18. As you progress communicating with this person/scammer he will ask to exchange indecent photographs/video.

After you exchange photo’s you will be contacted by the scammers fake "Father" or "Mother". They will tell you that you sent pictures to an under age girl/boy. They will want you to send money for therapy'damages or for them not to go to the police. In some cases the scammer has contacted victim pretending to be Law Enforcement/Private Investigators, possibly going as far as to spoof the number of a real local Law Enforcement department to make it appear that they are calling.

There are also seen cases where a scammer pretends to an online agent looking for pedophiles. This scam is using the same payment methods mentioned above. The Scammer will tell you that if you pay them they will not report it.

Recommended Actions:

It is best to stop all contact with the scammers. Ignore his calls and messages.

Ignore all demands for money. If you pay the scammer he will continue to blackmail you. You will only stop paying when you go broke or realize you are being scammed.

Deactivate your Facebook account for two weeks. Change your photo or avatar when you reactivate it or get a new one. Also change your user name. Do not accept requests from anyone you have never met.

Do the above for all social media and Skype.

You may have to change your phone numbers.

File a report with your local law enforcement agency and to one of the following below if possible.

I sent intimate photos/video to my scammer or he says he recorded my activities on webcam, and now he is threatening to publish them. What can I do?
Unfortunately, there is not much you can do. The only advice we can give you is not to give in to blackmail demands, and once again, cut off ALL contact with the scammer. If he cannot reach you, he cannot blackmail you. If he knows that he has power over you, he will continue to abuse that power and demand more and more money. He may promise to destroy the photos/video, but remember he is a liar and a thief, and his promises are worth nothing.

The truth is, in most cases the scammer will not follow through with this threat, because following through will cost him time and money. If he tries to post anything pornographic, most public sites would delete it anyway. In the unlikely event that he does post something, you need to be proactive and contact the site immediately to have it removed. Depending on the threats, you may want to file a report with law enforcement.

Just remember for the future that any photo or video you give to ANYONE is out of your control, and anything you do on webcam can be recorded. This particular issue is not exclusive to scammers - the internet is full of stories of angry people who posted intimate details or photos/video of ex-partners after a relationship ended badly.

If you sent or received nudes knowing or believing that you were communicating with a minor the above does not apply to you.

In this situation, we are not willing/nor will assist you.

Notably, the legal definition of sexually explicit conduct does not require that an image depict a child engaging in sexual activity. A picture of a naked child may constitute illegal child pornography if it is sufficiently sexually suggestive. Additionally, the age of consent for sexual activity in a given state is irrelevant; any depiction of a minor under 18 years of age engaging in sexually explicit conduct is illegal.

Are they as persistent as they are because i almost paid them? I got 3 more calls and a voice mail using my called name saying "we need to talk it is urgent, my wife and me are worried you backed out on our deal and we may have to let the authorities handle this, let me know mr knight."

I went and changed my number, but it is entertaining they basically admit to blackmail and extortion in the same voicemail

Further research yields, Investigators number is VoIP from textnow or something, and second one says country code 310, not sure if that means its a Los Angeles or like i read earlier the scammers are located in NC. Either way, mind is now at rest I appreciate all of you!

You should follow the advice previously given and deactivate your facebook account . DO NOT PAY THEM ANY MONEY , Even if you pay them there is no guarantee they won't demand even more money and / or post them anyway . Additionally you will sending money to a Criminal and Potentially Subversive Organization . Now do the right thing. Suck it up and take ownership for your mistake . Report this Scam to your State / National Police .

So I was on kik and I me this girl her kik is Katie Whitten and stupidly of me I sent her a nude with my face in it and then she sent me screenshots of my Facebook friends list and said she would send them if i don't pay her $200 through money gram. She told me to pay to "analyn agravante" from the Philippines. I was really scared and I told her to please not do it and now I'm ignoring her but she keeps sending me "hey >:(" about once a day and I'm so scared she will actually send the pictured to my Facebook contacts. What should I do? I have already set the maximum privacy setting on fb.

Read the first post in this topic and follow the instructions there.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

I am digging up a case from early last year and with the instances described on Page 1, my case is very similar. Reading over some of the more recent posts, they are also very similar. I sadly panicked and paid $800...... Quite an expensive learning experience and I will describe what has occurred for the sake of catalog and other people avoiding the same incident. I have not blocked the numbers so far for the ability to continue collecting data but I will not respond anymore to the texts or calls.

The incident for me was the girl (Kimberly Goldman in Anchorage, AK), whose profile on a site called MeetMe said she was 24, was messaging me and tells me she is not quite 18 yet and then all of a sudden sent me a nude picture (that I did not ask for and have deleted). I continued talking and said to not send those because she is not 18. Another nude photo was sent to me and I restated the same thing to stop sending them and deleted the photo. Her responses stop for the night and the next day (12/6/17) the "father" named "Jason Allen" contacts me via the same phone number (910-284-4797) and says that the "mother" and "mother-in-law" are threatening to go to the police but he might be able to talk them down if we can work things out. He gives the idea of me paying for the phone that will now be deactivated and asks for payment via Western Union or Walmart money-gram (call me stupid and/or naive, I did not know how those two things worked before I sent the money nor that scammers use those two things in particular.......). He had me stay on the phone while I went to a Walmart and sent the money. He had me provide my name and the reference number for the moneygram and had be send it to "Dominique Woods in Columbia, SC 29212".

Before I initially responded to the "father" my gut said to ignore the text and I should have... Today (12/7/17) I received a call from number 803-207-0996 from a detective "Detective Darrin Mills" who says he is calling on behalf of the "Allen" family. Later I received texts from the "father" on the same number as before (910-284-4797) with an incomplete text that probably was going to reference saying the "mother-in-law" has still gone to the police with the incident.

Just to restate, I do not plan to contact them anymore. I so far am just leaving the numbers unblocked to collect data. If that is a bad idea as well, let me know.

I will be providing Walmart/Ria with information about the case and plan to report it to IC3. The "daughter" sent me a picture of her face (not nude) and I can provide that if anybody wants to see it for comparison.
