does anyone have the ability to trace a mobile phone number?...My witless brother has been given a mobile phone number to call by a Nigerian scammer...the number is 07738422922.....it is on the 02 network ,which is in the UK and the name he has been given to call is Lisa Phillips...I have tried phoning the number several times and it goes straight to answer machine...The phone may be stolen perhaps...but I was surprised that a Nigerian would give out a UK mobile phone number...can anyone shed any light on it? I emailed 02 to ask for information on the number but they cannot give me any info due to data protection...I thought the UK mobile phone number may be something of a smoking gun to lead to the scammers?

THIS IS A COPY OF THE EMAIL THE SCAMMER SENT WITH THE DETAILS OF THE PHONE NUMBER IF IT IS OF ANY HELP................

Mr John,

I have states categorically, I cannot get the package to the UK without complete payment agreed on.

Secondly, I will be leaving Nigeria to Zim soon, hence won't be able to continue with this madness, means only one option for you and Edith to come down here to start the formal clearance of the package from the Zim Authorities.

Just as every other decision making process, you have been given a stipulated time frame. Be it you get the money arranged or not, it all depends on the time frame.

I am currently working with a client, Mr Kelly in Nigeria who has someone in the UK, as I want to help him secure a Visa. Even I can't help him as he is going through financial difficulties as well. You can call his contact for any clarification on-

Name: Lisa philips

Mobile: +44-(0)7738422922

In your best interest, I will advice you to arrange the funds for the final clearance of the package before I can come to the UK.

Conclusively, I wouldn't need to speak much in the above subject matter. Make the best choice while you still can.

I regret that the mobile number on its won won't lead you anywhere jeaniemac. If you use baiting skills it can be useful and might enable you to get more information just by using cunning and persuasion, but you have to set yourself up to do that and know how to go about it.

in publicising the number you have made if less useful for the scammer to use in the future.

There are plenty of 419 scammers in the UK, and in the USA and in parts of the world you wouldn't believe. Even those who are located in West Africa have friends and contacts in the rest of the world who will help them out with calls. Tracking down and identifying scammers isn't easy, but it isn't impossible.

One problem is that I know the identities of many scammers and have their photos and personal details but that doesn't mean that I can apply it to every fake identity they use, which is no use to a victim, especially as scammers can get through up to fifty mailboxes and id's in a year.

thanks any way boycie....I don't think I could could bait someone myself...I don't have the patience and that is what is required...I just want to get weighed right in....and that gung ho attitude wont catch me a scammer..i think more stelth approach is what is needed when dealing with scammers...ive been trying to stop this scammer for years and failed ive got £50,000 worth of western union transactions in the house and that's not them all!!.....wouldt you think that a sting operation could be set up with copoperation of the UK police/Nigerian police and western union to arrange to send money to the scammer and when he picks it up at the appointed place he gets nicked!?....is that possible to do? im getting desperate..its only a matter of time before my brother hands them the deeds to our house or something.... ....I couldn't resist this monster on the smilies to add to my woes..at least he is cute
