This is a phone scam, you get put in a que for 3 or 5 mins then you get throught to a answer mashine .. saying to phone back .. and its cost you £3 or £4. for nothing ..... so dont get cought like I did ....

From your use of "£", I'm guessing you're in the UK. Any number beginning 70 (+44-70) is a redirect; a lot of them are used by scammers to pretend to be in England when they're actually somewhere else.

it’s an expensive personal number that from a BT landline will cost 46p/min, from mobiles it will cost 66p/min upwards

Unlike a normal call, part of the call charge is paid to the service provider, thus enabling businesses to be funded via the calls.

This number is not the only one being used and, the only good thing is that it will deter potential victims from using these numbers that are also used by 419 scammers.

I received the same email this morning - but it was such an obvious scam because:
The email was sent from a yahoo.com account NOT a company account;
The email contained no information whatsoever about the company;
The phone number you're asked to call is non geographical (and now I know why!!)

I'd hate for hard-up jobseekers to get caught out, please everyone, use common sense (though I know how desperate jobseeking is, believe me!) and importantly, keep a record of all your job applications... it's not easy (I'm up to application 845) but it'll help identify the scam emails. Good (safe) hunting...

In regards to our previous email inviting you for a job interview. We realised we had a problem with our telephone line. Fortunately the vacancy is still open, we are still happy to invite you to an interview.

Yeah... I got a repeat email same as Northernstar today too... from the same yahoo account as before... any point reporting this to the police? Or has their IT fraud team been disbanded - anyone know?

To be honest getcarter I don't think it's worthwhile and I don't think it will be effective, after all the numbers themselves aren't illegal and you'd have to prove that the number owner was issuing the e-mails, which may sound obvious, but unless it can be done there's no chance of prosecution. Then you'd have to prove that the job offer was fraudulent, which you can't do without ringing the number and attending the interview.

It's much simpler and easier to flag up the e-mail addresses and numbers currently being used. That way it doesn't waste your time and it takes a chunk out of the potential earnings of the scammer. That way the scammer wastes his time, makes no money and people are educated not to touch these numbers with a bargepole.
