I created a profile on upwork.com for a work from home data entry job. I received a message on upwork from Cathy Hamilton asking me to email an address for more details about the job. I know I wasn't supposed to do anything outside of Upwork but was new to the website so thought that maybe the interview process was done via email and other means like video chat. I emailed the address and then eventually got an email back from Melissa Tankiewicz from Celgene ([email protected]). She attached a PDF with the job description which was very detailed. I subsequently had a job interview via AIM with Melissa on 1/20/2016. I was asked to send a copy of my driver's license and a utility bill so they could run a background check. I did this after googling to see if it was a scam and I couldn't find anything. Also I found that Melissa is indeed a real HR employee of Celgene. She has a linked in profile. The picture on the linked in profile was the same picture from her Linked IN account. So hesitantly I submitted a copy of my driver's license and utility bill. Yesterday (1/28/2016), I received a job offer from [email protected]. They emailed me a PDF of the job offer and asked me to accept it. I was very suspicious at this point since the job offer was done outside of Upwork but I accepted it again just to see what other information they would try to get from me. Melissa asked me to come onto AIM for my pre training. However, she has never been available when she says she will be. To be 100% sure that this was a scam, this morning, I sent the 'real' Melissa a message via Linked IN asking her if she had an interview with me last week via AIM and if she hired me yesterday. She said she did not and that it was a scam. I have all of the evidence (emails, AIM chat, etc). I did NOT pay them any money and am not owed any money. They simply got a copy of my driver's license and utility bill. I have put a fraud alert on my account with all 3 credit bureaus and filed reports with the proper agencies. I am posting here in case they are scamming other people using this name and company.
